i just upgraded from windows 98 to windows XP but my taskbar is still the old style. Whereas i have seen the green and blue taskbar in windows XP everywhere else. What am i supposed to do to change its look? When i go into the appearance properties, therez only one option under windows and buttons i.e 'windows classic style', The 'windows XP style' is not there. Plz help me out with this. My display is already set to 'windows XP theme'.

R click on desktop; L click on properties; L click on appearance tab Under "windows and buttons" click Windows XP Style; L click apply; L click ok; and wallah, there it is!

The guy said that the choice is not there. I am having the same problem. I cannot figure out how to fix this. A reinstall does it. By chance did you recently install Logitech Mouse Drivers? I think that causes my problem.

I had the same problem that no one seems to have the answer too, but after lots of digging around on the net, this is what I found and it worked for me. Insert your xp cd in drive and dont do anything with what comes up on auto start, now go to run and type in "SFC/scannow" with out the quotes. Restart your machine and go to appearance tab and wallah, xp style is once again an option.

Did you every look to ensure that the Themes service is started? It's in the Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. If, for some reason, this service is not started you'll never get the option to choose XP Styles.
