Can't re-install XP

Installed XP and had the problems from the start. XP tour freezes, Script erros
in Media Player and numberous other annoyances. 2 weeks later I find I have a bad
memory Mod. Replaced, but I think I corrupted some files at install. Want to re-install
now but, I get a setup error right after it accepts my Registration Key and It wants
to close the install process. Any ideas short of a format and clean install?

Lift the partition using fdisk, create new partition, then format and install.
