First, if you upgraded, MAKE SURE ALL your drivers are Windows XP drivers. A few
people I've worked with that have upgraded are having similar problems when their
drivers haven't rolled over to XP's.
Secondly, make sure that you've visited the WindowsUpdate site lately (IE, Tools,
Windows Update). There are a few updates there that might help you out.
Thirdly, you can try and download and install the newest XP drivers for your motherboard,
chipset, etc...Make sure you have all the newest drivers.
Hope this helps!

I had a similar problem.
Turned out it was My Geforce II MX 400.
Turns out it was a hardware problem Not drivers.
No I just have to convince the techs at the card manufacturers that it's thier problem.
Once I pulled that out my system runs fine.
And now I only have to reboot about once every 3 days as opposed to 3 or 4 times
a day with 98.

Go to My comp.-properties-advanced-start up recovery-and check away automatically
restart under system failure.XP wont reboot, less annoying, but it wont solve your
really problem.

i was having the exact same problem buddy, i have the dvs dvd rom too and it has
some real buffer trouble. i havent found real xp drivers for it. well to get to what
you might wana try (besides of course your drivers) try these 2 programs.... ADWARE
(which will go through your computer and find any small hidden cookie type deallys
which can carry viruses) and AMIDIAG (which will pretty much burn test all your hardare
and make sure thats good). i finally got sick of trying to fix my problem and sent
it to a small shop i know to fix it (my patience wears thin after 4 months) and he
ran and gave me norton antivirus, and found a small virus causing the problem from
some stupid cookie crap (hence the adware). hope this helps you i feel your pain
and get back to me if you want some clearer advice
