Question about 'How do I skip the Product Activation in Windows XP?'

I have a question about How do I skip the Product Activation in Windows XP?:

I have been running XP pro for a couple weeks now and have had more crashes (er, rather XP initiated "restarts") and hang ups than i ever had in win2000. Im sure there must be service packs on the way (hopefully), BUT i have opted to keep this machine off the net (modems are painfully slow). I have tried to use windowsupdates.com to "lookfor" packs, but this damn thing is "automatic" (according to MS, windows users are not only thieves, but they are also total idiots). Is there any where i can find or get packs for an XP machine that is not on the net? BTW, I emailed MS with the same query a week ago and have heard NOTHING from them--add worthless to the list of idiots and thieves.

Well, even though there will be service packs (it's Microsoft...service packs are
a given) along the way, I don't think they'll really fix your problem. When your
computer just up and reboots, do you get a blue screen really quick that displays
an error? 99.9% of the errors I have in XP are because of really poorly coded drivers
from the manufacturer, not Microsoft.

Most of the errors I receive are from my Video card (nVidia GF3) and my Sound Card
(SBLIVE). I updated the drivers, and *voila* my problems disappeared. So, if I
were you, I would get all the drivers for your video card, sound card, motherboard,
modem, etc...ESPECIALLY if you upgraded from, say, 9x/Me.

Hope this helps!

My XP installation hung during bootup...until I removed the ancient S3 video card which I'd been keeping in the machine in case I ever got a second monitor ... then had forgotten about... as derek says, almost certain to be a hardware or driver issue. try removing cards one by one from the PC.

bare with me, im not that computer smart, but i upgraded from ME to XP, and i too have had several crashes.i have updated all my drivers, got all my windows updates. got norton system works, been in and out of xp in several different ways, i tried a new install instead of an upgrade,i have done all i can do. mine crashes too, and it gets in a "restart loop" and cant be recovered from, i try f8 to use safe mode, i try to use the xp disk and use the Repair console, i have done just about all i can think of. i can get it to work for a few days, then BAM, there it goes again, and i have to reload XP. i called MS, got some tech help, they said it may be a hardware conflict with my modem, i changed modems, and it seemed to fix it...was running great, then a few days later, once again it crashed and started the restart loop. if i find out and services packs or tips, i will let you know. if you would like to write me....allenx1966@aol.com. goodluck

Didn't turning off the restart loop work? Right click "my computer" > Properties > Advanced , Start up and recovery settings> untick "automatically restart" under system failure

Go to www.geocities.com/skipfreethrow/corpfaq.html re activation. There are no secret service packs out there that I know about. XP is very sensative to bad drivers and programs. I had trouble with my system when I ran BlackIce. As soon as I uninstalled it everything has been great. Good Luck.

Andrew, Like you , I had and still have a problem with an error message. I contacted Dell with the problem Guess what? They said it was MS windows issue. I contact MS with the issue and guess what? They said it was Dells problem. I asked to speak to a superivsor who supposedly cleared all this up. Ya think!! He said that Dell was sold a license to use Windows and in the agreement, Dell is suppose to service what they sell. Dell disagrees since they have no service manuals for Microsoft error codes. I will never buy another Dell product.
