Question about 'Uninstalling Windows'

I have a question about Uninstalling
Windows:
I upgraded to Win XP home edition from Win 98. Now I have 2 Windows Directories
on my C drive. (My other partition, D, contains my data files).
"Windows" directory: about 900 MB, and
"Windows.000" about 249 MB.
Now that I decided to keep Win XP how do I go about deleting (safely) the old Win98
directory and free up the hard drive?
So that I avoid the question of wanting to boot Win 98 or Win XP everytime I start
the computer.
I could not find anything to this effect on the Microsoft tech site.
Can anybody help?
Please?
Thanks in advance,
Biagio Bisignano,

I think the Windows.000 is the backup of your Win98 just in case you decide to uninstall
(that's what it was on my laptop I upgraded from 98). You can go ahead and delete
that folder if you feel so inclined. :)
Now, there are two ways to change your startup options so that it doesn't ask you
if you want to run Windows XP or 98. The "hide it" way, and the "get rid of it"
way. :)
Hide It Way:
Start, Control Panel, System, Advanced tab, under Startup and Recovery Click Settings.
Where it says "Time to Display List of Operating Systems" you can change that time
to 0 or 1, or whatever choice in seconds you want. This will make that list appear
and disappear quickly.
Get Rid of it Way:
Get back to the Startup and Recovery Settings. Click on Edit. under [Operating
Systems] Remove the line of code that starts "multi(0)disk(0)....and finishes with
something that says "Windows 98". (like this: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Windows.000="Windows
98"/fastdetect) That will remove the option to start up Windows 98. Save the file,
close, restart...*voila*
There you go. Any questions? Don't hesitate to ask!

I have an answer for you, but I don't have the knowledge off the top of my head -
I'd need to reboot etc and write down stuff etc.
E-mail me at: aires69uk@yahoo.com and I'll reply with the full details.

How about getting rid of 2000 of the same startup menu. The deal is i had 98 installed
2000 on another hard drive, hence got the option to boot either. then formated the
first drive and when i went to put windows me and 2000 on got a boot menu that looked
a little like this
Windows 2000
Windows 2000 Pro
Windows Me
Windows 98
any help on how to get rid of this would be great
