my network places

I installed a broadband cable router and connected to my 3 home PC's. 1 with XP
the other two with Win98. On the XP computer I used the network wizard to set up
my home network. After many unsuccessful attempts - it finally allowed me to set
up a network called Home. I used the XP CD to set up the other two computers & selected
the folders to be shared on all the PC's. On the XP computer when I open "My network
places" and try to "view workgroup computers" I get the following error message:
" Home is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource.
Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission.
The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available."
So far I have only been able to access the internet from two of the three PC and
have not been able to access files from the other PC's.
Any help as to next steps or things to check out would be much appreciated.

Regarding the message "Home is not accessible. You might not have permission to use
this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you
have access permission. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available."
or similar, I too have been struggling with this one. I have found that turning off
ICF (Personal Firewall, the one built into XP) on the machines which you are trying
connect gets everything working -- when the network is otherwise set up correctly
of course.
I think it should be possible to configure ICF to be turned on and open just a port
or two, but I have not found the right combination yet -- ports 137-139 alone don't
fix it for example.
Stewart.

I have the same problem you do/did, and the suggestion about the ICF didn't work
for me. Did you ever solve this problem? If so, I'd be grateful to hear how you did
it! Thanks.
