XP difficult to uninstall software

I have had to uninstall Norton Antivirus 2002, PC anywhere and Easy CD Creator from
my XP installation and each time the uninstall has corrupted operating system files,
or onetime it corrupted my profile within XP. Has anyone had strange experiences
with installing and uninstalling software under XP? The system feels very unstable.
