Unread email messages at logon screen

At the login screen, directly by my login name, there is a message that won't go
away. It says there are "7 unread mail messages". If I leave the mouse pointer
on it, it says that they are unread at my hotmail address. I have No unread messages
at my hotmail address, and find this continuing message to be a real annoyance.
Is there any way to get rid of it?

Download PowerToys and run TweakUI. Under the Login section, there is an option
to turn it off.

Everything goes well until I start looking in the expanded folder for the Unread
Mail - it's not there. Any suggestions?

Thanks for this tip. It was also a way for me to get rid of the message count for
my niece who checked her hotmail once and XP remembered (endlessly). I just deleted
the folder containing her e-mail reference.
The only thing to add is that I had to right-click on the MessageCount setting in
each folder and choose modify and then change the value to zero.
I like the messagecount in the logon screen, but they really do need to make an easy
way to reset this when phantom values start showing up.

I followed changing the value from 1 to 0 and the unread message at logon / logoff
was no normal. However the next message I received on MSN Hotmail, I had to go thru
the same routine. Is there a bug that should be fixed?

This must be a bug. The unread email message only showed up after I installed Messenger
6.0.
