Question about 'How do I uninstall Windows?'

Urgent! Do you know how to uninstall windows xp professional to get back all my files that existed under My Documents folder of the previous Windows ME? I did use the Search selection of the windows xp professional to find the *.doc and *.xls files, but no files are found. Did I lose all my files that existed in the My Documents folder before installing the Windows xp pro? I do find backup.cab 596,074 kb 11:50 pm 12/20/2001 (also boot. cab 3:18 pm 12/21/2001). Is My Documents folder containing over 60 .doc and .xls files still there in the said backup.cab file? If so, how to get back the said files? This is how I installed the Windows XP pro on my pentium3 computer: 1. I had Windows ME (unstable, unreliable!) running for 6 months using an internet cable connection from AT & T. 2. Just a few days ago, I installed windows 2000 under what is called dual booting with Windows ME; used two separate drives- Windows ME on C: drive and Windows 2000 on D drive; no change in data partition. no application programs were installed on windows 2000. 3. Proceeded to install Windows XP Pro and selected upgrade to preserve all my installed programs and data files, but the last 1 minute (displaying deleting temp files) of installation of Windows XP pro stayed forever; only way out was to unplug the electric power cord. Then, I booted off the XP CD, and selected install to install XP in a new directory called windowsX (instead of windows directory). Thus, successfully installed XP pro as a new installation in the new directory WindowsX. with a display of just one icon called RecycleBin on my desktop. My main concern is what happened to all my files under the previous (Windows ME) Desktop that displayed My Documents containing the folders of My Documents, My Music, and My Pictures.

Don't panic, to get back to your old installation just boot into XP, go to the command prompt and type in "osuninstall.exe" or go do the following: Click on Start | control panel | add or remove programs | highlight remove windows XP| click ok. That's it. Have you tried to reinstall your wordprocessing program and then search for your documents? Are you logged in as the Administrator and do you have the right permissions to see those documents? All questions you should ask your self before you go back. Use the help and support that comes with XP to solve most of these questions.

Thanks for prompt e-mail...pleae help clarify the following:
>Click on Start | control panel | add or
>remove programs | highlight remove windows XP| click ok. That's it. Windows XP Uninstall does NOT appear in the currently Installed programs; therefore there is nothing to highlight, and click ok. Can I still go to command prompt and type in "osuninstall.exe"?

>Use the help and support that comes with XP to solve most of these questions. I will check the help as suggested to see if answers are there. Thanks for your timely help.
