Question about 'How do I uninstall Windows?'

What a disaster! Microsoft's newest operating system: Windows XP professional while
upgrading the Windows ME caused system hanging/failure in the last one minute of
its long 60 minutes of upgrading installation. The message displayed: 1 minute left,
deleting temp files. As a result of the failure of the XP Professional to 100% complete
the upgrade installation over the Windows ME in the default directory called Windows,
all my .doc and .xls files of My Documents directory have vanished although a backup.cab
596,074 kb was created by the XP Pro installation in a directory called Undo. Because
there was no 100% completion of the XP installation to install the upgrade over existing
ME, now it is NOT possible for me to uninstall the Windows XP professional. Someone
suggested this solution, “Click on Start | control panel | add or remove programs
| highlight remove windows XP| click ok. That's it.”, but this suggested solution
works only when there is 100% complete installation to upgrade existing ME.

Is My Documents folder containing over 60 .doc and .xls files still there in the
said backup.cab file? If so, does anyone know how to extract my files from the said
backup.cab file? Not only the contents of My Documents containing the folders of
My Documents, My Music, and My Pictures but also the contents of Desktop that I used
to see in Windows ME have also vanished.

Here is how to fix it, 1. Reformat your hard drive 2. Boot from the XP CD, or download the utility to create boot floppies. 3. Install XP. MS products don't upgrade! You have to install to a clean HD each time!! Anything else risks disaster!!! When will people learn???

Don't lose hope -- this may get your data back. (What better example can there be of a reason to do a full data backup -- as Microsoft repeatedly advises -- before upgrading????) Visit the Microsoft Product Support Services webpage at http://support.microsoft.com/ and do a search referring to their article #Q307153 and that might help you successfully complete the XP installation and recover your data. I used their advice and it worked just fine. Microsoft has excellent advice when you can just locate it...

I have had issues with this. Use the XP cd and pretend that you're installing it again. There is an option when it asks do you want to proceed with setup (or something like it) right at the beginning that you can use, which you can then proceed to format c:
