Question about 'Making Sure the Correct HAL is Installed'

In XP, what are the exact steps that need to be taken in order to change your HAL.
After we boot to the cd, and after you select "Install", is it going to re-install
Windows XP or is it going to give us some options that are easy to find to change
the HAL?

Hi,
First, XP is very good at getting the choice of HAL right, so change its choice at
your peril!
Odd though it may sound, the first thing to do is make sure the BIOS setting "Plug
& Play OS" is set to NO. Odd though it may seem, this is the official MS recommendation
for just about every case, especially XP on an ACPI compliant machine. If you really
want to check, somewhere in the Tools folder on the XP CD is an ACPI check utility
you can use to prove if your system really is ACPI compliant. Many say they aere
but are not.
To your original question. Boot the XP CD. At the point where you see the message
"Press F6 to install a third-party disk driver", PRESS F5. (This option is hidden!)
You will then see a list of HALS from which you can choose.
I'm doing a lot of research on this because I really want to know what chips have
to be on the motherboard to cause XP to select the Uniprocessor or Multiprocessor
HALS, as these are not limited to just 16 interrupts.
Let me know what happens.
