Hi Vincent.
The reason you keep getting that Installer message is because you probably chose
the Typical setup, and any features that didn't install will have to be run from
the CD.
Try reinstalling MSOffice2k and choosing Custom, click Next, then you will see a
window w/a bunch of drives w/all the applications listed. click on the top drive:
Microsoft Office2000, then click on Run all from My Computer. When Office finishes
installing, reboot, and I can guarantee that you won't see that installer again.
The reason I know this is because I just installed MSOffice2000 on my xp partition
and everything is on my hard drive (works very well, too!)
Hope this helps!

Like others I too have the Windows installer issue on my relatively new HP PC (with
XP). My issue is that every time I open Outlook a message pops up that I need to
insert my Microsoft Office 2K Disk 2 to complete the install program. I hit cancel
and the box goes away, I can check messages, run my calendar do everything I want
to do in Outlook just fine. It annoys me that this message always pops up and I can’t
get it to go away. I am at a loss to fix this, I tried the re-install process for
Office 2K and that didn't work because tells me I have an error and can't reinstall.
The message reads:
" Error 1919 configing ODBC data source MS Access database ODBC error 6 component
not found in registry verify that the file MS Access exist and that you can access
it".
I have verified that Access exist (I think) and even tried to uninstall / reinstall
just Access. Nothing worked to stop the Windows Installer message when opening Outlook.
BTW Access opens just fine and seems to work. Any ideas or suggestions for me?

If you look in event viewer you will see a series of missing registery enteries,
create them, or email me and ask for the .reg files I created to create them, they
only work for the current user, but applying them is a two click process =) I have
found that the cause of this issue is Generally installing Microsoft Installer 2.0.

generally speaking, the new HP systems come with a 'corel' word perfect 30 day trial,
if removed and office installed after, you will recv the message "error 1919 odbc
error 6"...etc.
This is due to ODBC keys missing from the registry, corels word perfect removed them....
see
http://kb.corel.com/kbdocs/UNKNOWN/WP10WIN/WP10WIN_206758.htm
Possible fix: update the system to MDAC 2.6
or find out the windows directory name if Winxp PRO/HOME
the windows directory will be listed as 'windows' or 'winnt'
find a computer that matches yours and copy the ODBC keys that are missing and import
them to your system registry, reboot system and then reinstall Office
see MSKB Q320757

After uninstalling and using the proper cleanup utility, obtain a copy of MSINFO32.exe
from microsoft. Use the tools - cleanup utility to delete office 2000. This works
and gets rid of the "another version is already installed" error message.
This works even if Windows Installer 2.0 is installed on your computer.

the Easiest way to fix this problem is to Install Office 2000/XP with everything
set to Run from hard disk. This will copy everything on the CD onto your hard disk
and you will never see that message again. However, there is one caveat to this
solution. It takes one Heck of a lot of disk space (approx. 1.5 GB). Its amazing
how much they can fit onto those CD's. Anyway, it worked for me.

A complete install won't fix the problem. It has to do with profiles. Look up "Default
User" on Microsoft's KB. You can create a new profile called "User" & give it admin
rights. Then open ALL the office programs you want to run & do all the necessary
settings to get them to open & close OK. Then you copy the "User" profile to the
"c:\documents and settings\default user" profile. Be sure to use the Profiles tab
in the System Properties. Any new user that logs in after that will be using all
the default user settings.

Even when you choose custom and run all from my computer, the installer still wants
to run. You can get rid of it by: Start > run > type: gpedit.msc > local computer
policy > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > double click "disable Windows
Installer " choose always and apply. The problem is that the installer is then
turned off and you may have to turn it back on at a later point. This works and
is safe, but it is a hack!

Hello Billie, I hope you are still around and can help me with this problem. When
I start OutlookXP Windows Installer starts and asks me to put a CD in for a program
that I once installed a long time ago. I have since reinstalled WinXP and OfficeXP
at least twice. I don't know why or how this is happening. Here is what it says.
“Insert the Outlook Pocket Contact Synchronizer 1.2 disk and click OK” I have that
program as a compressed EXE that was downloaded from Microsoft. When I execute the
file I get the exact same message from Windows Installer. If I click OK, the Installer
window pops up the Use feature box says “Please insert the disk labeled “{ProductName]”.
What can I do?
Thanks

This solution worked perfectly for my dodgy installation on a terminal server. I
found the missing registry values, created them and exported them. The only downside
to that was I had to get every user to add the registry entries. Still, it worked.

I have a program called Perfect Scrapbook maker at work (a software company). It
attempts to install everytime I open it. I must 'cancel' the installation at least
10 times before the program runs. This is in Windows 2KPro.
I have also had the problem with MS Office on an XP box at home. It tries to install
at very random times. What could be causing this? With user profiles in mind, I was
logged in my account in both cases, but did not install the programs, another user
did. I am not an 'Administrator' at work but I have no restrictions on the programs
I install, or any kind of limitations on my account.
There are a couple other programs however, that I did install logged in on my account
at work, that gave the same problem.
What exactly is the User Profile & Windows Installer relationship? Where do they
tie together in the registry?
Thanks for the help, I knew I wasnt alone.

MS Access Database ODBC error 6 or otherwise Error 1919

This also occurs in MS Office 2003 and may 1st be noticed when starting Outlook 2003.
On my system this happened when (after) I uninstalled WordPerfect Office 2000 (v9.x)
and then installed WP Office 12 which did not install correctly - then un-installed
and re installed WP Office 2000 and the "MS Access Database ODBC error 6:" message
and all related failures appeared.
Quick fix, If you can, or have available, copy keys from other XP Pro system.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ODBC
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC
Other than this, the old Office 2000 link may help you.

I noticed this problem running Outlook 2003. Did not have WordPerfect. Had something
called Reminder Manager. After I uninstalled Reminder Manager, ran a "detect and
repair" and got the msg. Tried Tweak UI
for Windows XP. In Control Panel found odbccp32.cpl box unchecked. Checked box
and error went away. Don't know why this worked. Any ideas? Thanks!

potential fix for VB6/VS IDE windows installer issue
Monday, January 17, 2005 at 5:36 am Posted by Michael Engshun
(1 messages posted)
When I started the VB6 IDE on a hand-me-down work laptop, the Windows Installer pop-up
dispayed and proceeded to sit there indefinitely. I had the following event log
entry display: Detection of product '{91510409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}', feature
'OfficeUserData', component '{C9AF9050-C8BE-11D1-9C67-0000F81F1B38}' failed. The
resource 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common\UserData' does
not exist.
Looking at my personal laptop (I try to keep that well configured), I copied the
entry and value and applied that to the problem child - that is, I created 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common\UserData'
as a DWORD entry with a value of 0x00000001. Without needing reboot the problem
laptop, the VB IDE started up as it should (and without the Windows Installer dialog
box).
Hope this helps some of you.

***Here's the answer to the installer problem***
Do a search as www.microsoft.com for the msicu.exe (Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility).
Setup the program, look for it in your start menu, run it, scroll down the list for
"faulty" installation package (in my case it was Logitech Quickcam) and erase the
installation package.
This corrected the problem I was having - a window's installer window opening over
and over again when I tried to start NoClone 3.1.
Hope this helps any some of you.

In my particular case, I had the installer popping up because I was trying to open
a power point file with power point viewer, but didn't have power point installed.
I found that if I deleted the references to .ppt and .pot files in the keys below
this one:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18
and when I went into explorer and modified the .ppt file type the problem went away...

MS office 2003, then had "windows installer" appear everytime I opened up MS Office
2000. I reinstalled MS Office 2000 and no longer have "windows installer" popup.
However, everytime I open up Internet Explorer then "windows installer"' appears.
I've tried the Windows Install cleanup as suggested but Internet Explorer isn't on
the list of programs. Thanks in advance for any help.

What program is it trying to install? It appearing everytime you start IE does not
necessarily mean that IE's installation program is damaged. When I had this problem,
every other program was responding to a faulty Roxio program...

When windows installer starts go through the cycle to see what it is trying to install
rather than cancelling the installation dialogue; if that does not work, go to your
add/remove programs windows and look through your list to see what was some of the
latest programs that you may have installed and delete those installation files.
If you have a problem uninstalling a particular program - reinstall the program(which
creates a new uninstallation program) and then re-uninstall the program.
Hope this helps, if not, post again, I'll see what else I can think of.

have you tried using windows installer to remove Microsoft Office's installation

Hi all,
I'm experiencing the windows installer problem. It pops up everytime I use a Windows
application it seem ie. Internet Explorer, MS Word Help, System Restore etc. I figure
it's due to the MS Office 2003 trial edition that I removed a while ago using add/remove
programs. I had to reinstall Office 2000 b/c it said extensions were missing. I'm
wondering if the windows installer will disappear if I use the Windows cleanup utility
to remove the ms office 2003 installer package. Or will this screw up my ms office
2000? Thanks a bunch.

I had the same problem, and the ONLY SOLUTION that worked for me was to delete the
program file, MSACCESS.EXE from the Office11 subfolder (or depending on the Office
version you have, it may be named Office10 or Office9) under the "c:/Program Files/Microsft
Office/" folder
-AND-
deleting ALL instances of SYSTEM.MDW (repeated tries at installing may produce System1.mdw,
System2.mdw, etc.). This file is found in the "c:\Documents and Settings\{your user
name}\Application Data\Microsoft\Access" folder for WINXP, and the C:\Program Files\Common
Files\SYSTEM" folder
for earlier WIN versions.

Just to warn on this solution - deleting the system.mdw files - test Microsoft Access
before emptying your recycle bin; according to Microsoft's support site, Microsoft
Access relies on the *.mdw's for user and account information such as whether or
not you are a administrator, user, etc.
Haven't deleted the file but...you know, just to be safe...

This just started happening yesterday.
No new installations or unistalls, just Windows Installer would start everytime I
started Microsoft Word.
Went through all my Microsoft programs, and it would happen with Word, Excel, and
Frontpage. But would not happen with Access, Money, or anything else.
When Installer would start, it always wanted to install Visual Basic (which is installed
and was installed last year.)
A google search turned up a number of possible solutions, but the first one I tried
was to
- open Microsoft Word,
- (clicked cancel at all the Windows Installer prompts until it went away.
- on Microsoft Word, clicked Help, Detect & Repair.
- had to put in my Microsoft Office installation CD, but after finishing, the problem
had gone away.
I tried starting Excel, Frontpage, and Word again, and the Windows Installer problem
seems cured.
Hope this helps someone else.....

I just solved the installer problem on XP with Office 2003 by removing Adobe Bridge
using Add/Remove Programs.

re: Installer pops up then dissapears when I try to open Access 2003

I've read back on this thread and have tried just about every one of the above fixes,
with the exception of deleting registry entries or program files.
This seems to have started after I updated a version of a spec program (speclink)
which I'm pretty sure is an access based program.
I can't uninstall office 2003 and I can't reinstall 2003.
Can anyone please help?

I have the same problems with OFFice 2003; just getting messages with the ODBC registry
error1919 everytime I open Access and a few others. And it constantly wants me to
install the CD to run a program. Could you email me those reg. keys as well? Thanks,
MW
