Question about 'Save Your Desktop Layout'

I have a question about Save Your Desktop Layout:

Windows XP, after changing resolution and coming back re-arranges all the icons on the desktop. To day it's impossible to find a utility to solve the problem.

There is a little utility, called IconSaver. It will work on any windows version, including windows XP. I had been looking for something like that myself. You can try it for 30 days and purchase it for only 5 bucks. If it does what it says, I think it is well worth the 5 bucks. Get it here: http://www.core-project.com/iconsaver/index.html

I don't think this website is viable any longer. Does anyone else have another solution for Windows XP moving the icons back to where it wants them upon reboot, instead of where I want them?

The program still exists. They have only moved to their own domain. You can now find about the utility here: http://www.iconsaver.com/index.html Regards.

Icon Saver website is now at http://www.iconsaver.com. It's still just 5 bucks.

Try this method to use the built in feature of NT/XP to restore desktop icons. http://users.rcn.com/taylotr/icon_restore.html

Oh that rocks. I use an external drive to keep MY
stuff separate from work stuff. Using "junction", I
have desktop point to the USB drive. Each time I
plug it back in, Windows totally screws up the desktop.
Not anymore!

DB

IF you aren't interested in installing a program just to keep your icons in place... try this: when your desktop is all organised the way you like it; hit "PRT SCR" button on your keyboard. then, go into a simple graphics editing program and select "edit/paste as new image" and presto, you now have a copy (picture) of your desktop all organised the way you like it. of course, this means you will have to still redo the icons manually, but at least the job is way easier having a copy of how they're all placed, and where!
