I have a comment about Display your file extensions:

What about the "NeverShowExt" values in the registry? They still hide a few even when you say don't hide.

For Windows XP, I do believe the correct key is: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\HideFileExt 0 = No, 1 = Yes I may be wrong though.
