Use the + key on your numeric keypad, not the one next to the backspace key.

Thanks a lot, but the Ctrl-+ trick took you one step beyond - because it resizes
*every* column at once.
On the other hand - the *twistie trick* applies only to
le column on the left side...
Any other idea ?

I'm still trying to figure out how to view details in Windows 98! When I "View details",
the window is blank. According to microsoft, I needed to go to Regedit (the registry):
(HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced) and
change the value to "1". Did that, and now I have an "Attributes" column, but that's
all - in the view details view.

What value did you change to 1 in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
?
Did you try right-clicking the Attributes column for a list of more available columns
(eg. type, size...)?

I've been having this problem for a while and finally started attacking it. The
Control-+ item mentioned on a page linked to from these messages worked for me, but
*ONLY* when I used the + on the keypad (not the one next to BS), so I thought I'd
note that in case it might help one of you.

I feel your pain! I finally found a fix for this annoying problem. You need to go
into your registry under "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer."
Look for the DWord "ClassicShell" - you need to change this value to 0. Hope this
helps.

Does anyone know the registry-entry in Windows 2000 for this:
In Windows Explorer to set the View on Details.
Thanks a lot!
