Question about 'Customize Windows XP Styles'

I have a question about costumizing WinXp
I want it to look EXACTLY like 98 or Win2K Pro
Window blinds only go's so far. (I want to change ALL the cartooney folder icons
in the drives)
I had some minor success manually importing doc.dll
from the sytem and sytem32 files from 98 And other various file associated with Icons.
What i need to know is this(And if it is possible0
What do i need to import from win 98 to get XP to look Just like 98 or win2k (Toolbars
windows folder icons desktop icons location of control panel ETC)
Or what i may need to import from win2k SInce they have the same core source code
And if this is even possible. (Yes i am an extreme power user ;) lol
I hope there is someone out there That is "techie" enough to help me. I can be reached
at Psilaxs@hotmail.com
Any Info would be greatly appriciated.
P.S I am not talking about just a mere skinning for XP, but a total rework of the
interface to make it represent the afformentioned Operating systems.
Thanks again.
Best Regards

I would be interested (surprised, actually) if you could replace the xP shell, complete
with dynamic links, with a 2000 or even 98 shell. I imagine this would be difficult
to do, since xP will do almost anything to protect system files. However, I could
be wrong...

I've not used Windows XP, but at a Microsoft Seminar I have been to, the speaker
was talking about changing to the "Windows Classic" look / Theme. From what I understand
this gives XP the look and feel of Win2K. It should be included in the operating
system somewhere.

Not quite, I still want to change the look of the folder
icons from the cartoony ones to the "Classic" look in 98 SE or Win2K Pro. Even XP
Rendition of Classic folders still llok a little to bubly for my taste.

icons are stored in the system32/shell32.dll file. In the past I've used Microangelo
to muck around with icons, see if you can find it.

Yeah, that was a big thing for me too. I did it, and it was a huge amount of work.
I used a resource editor to replace all of the offending icons, AVIs, bitmaps, etc.,
in XP. It took a lot more than editing shell32.dll-- I edited 132 files to get this
done. I used the icons included with WinME, for the most part. I had to edit or
create a lot of them. The results were worth the effort, IMO.
At first, I used Reshacker, but unfortunately, it made Windows unstable. Several
of the edited files were not recognized as Win32 PE files. That was not good. So
I went and redid everything with Heaventools' Restuner. The result is perfect stability,
and no "wacky" at all. Take a look at this screen shot of my XP install:

i had win2k previously and when i upgraded to winxp, the xp style was not there.
my win xp installation actually looks like win 2k. i've done this repeatedly in
win2k to win xp upgrades and it never fails -- always that win 2k look!
the problem is that i prefer the win xp style -- that's just me. in my case, i can't
even find it! maybe you can do the same thing i did?

Right click on open spot on main screen. Select "Properties" then in "Themes" choose
"Windows Classic". Reverse proceedure to return to WinXP Theme.

Right click anywhere other than on an icon on opening screen. Click on "Properties"
then select "Classic Screen". Click "Appearances" and check to see if "Windows and
Buttons" is set to "Windows classic" and "Color Scheme" is set to "Windows standard".
This will work in Classic Theme or XP Theme to change back.

Hey Gabriel! Do not import anything from 98, it will mess your xp system up. All
you have to do is
1.)Goto the (Control Panel).
2.)Dounle click on (Administrative Tools).
3.)Double click on (Services).
4.)Go down to (Themes) & right click on it & then choose (properties).
5.)Goto where you see (stop) & then press stop.
6.)Just above that in the same window by [startup Type:] It should be on Automatic,
do not leave it like that, Change it to (Disabled).
7.)Click (Apply) Then Click (OK)
Now your troubles should be over, remember never try to port Win 98 to XP because
XP is on a whole other class that 98 is not on & plus it runs on top of the Windows
NT/2000 based system that win95,98,ME is not even near close to. Good luck!
