I uninstalled the program again and the computer now shuts down properly.

I had the same problem too. I found out that the "Automatically Restart on system
failure" -option was selected on Control Panel --> System --> Advanced --> Startup
And Recovery Settings. So my computer rebooted because of the Blue Screen Of Death
caused by that little system tray utility "Project Selector" which is a part of the
roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum -suite. I removed the Project Selector startup entry
from the registry and now my computer shuts down properly.

Yes, that's what I did, and then I got the blue screen at shutdown. So the restart
was just a symptom, not the problem...

I removed Easy CD Creator 4.05's startup values (createcd.exe) from the Windows Registry
editor... Now it works fine, the problem is Create CD application which does not
shut down properly and because that Windows XP restarts, or shows blue screen depending
on users options...

The problem can be often fixed in Windows 98 by applying the shutdown update. Happens
I think when APM is not enabled as the OS is installed. In XP I am still looking
for the reason. No Roxio to blame.

Same as Greame, Laptop, XP Pro, even restarts when off button is held in for 5 secs
to turn off, doesnt matter how I close down or switch off my computer just restarts
sometimes immediatley and sometimes after an hour, as if it has a mind of it's own!
Has anyone fixed this prob? Oh and my Canon printer that I have used lots of times
before OK by connecting by USB has now decided that it is a different model than
it used to be?????

I'm having the same problem. But i know what i did to make it happen. I have this
compaq presario keyboard and it has several "easy access" buttons. This keyboard
is from my old computer but i now use it with my new one. Anyways, there's a button
that's SUPPOSED to put the computer on stand-by. So i got curoious and i pushed it
but it restarted my computer instead. Now whenever i try to shutdown my computer
restarts! And the bios screen looks all distorted. Anyone have any ideas? I'm almost
resorting to reformating my computer but i have too many files that i didn't back
up.

I've had a continual problem with sporadic not shutting down, forcing me to do it
manually. I used Spybot Search & destroy freeware which helped. Then bought & downloaded
PestPatrol. The latter listed Microsoft/Windows containing a couple of items in
my registry that were spying. I deleted those with PestPatrol. And have had no
problem shutting down since.

I have a brand new system with Windows XP service pack 2 installed. I have auto
restart unchecked. It goes through shut down, monitor powers off, and then anywhere
from 1 minute to over an hour later I come back, and the system is powered back on.
The place I bought the system from doesn't have a clue. Any one out there have a
suggestion?

ANOTHER EXPLANATION
For me it was the "Logitech MouseWare" software which was making the trouble.
See description on Microsoft page :

Once this software removed, evreything was working fine !

anything results on restart...i tried to scan for viruses, you name it, nothing,
but this kinda helped, but the problem reoccurs sometimes...

mouse, usb) then load up your pc and plug them back in ( make sure you dont have
a password on your main user )
