I've got one :) How do I exclude known bad memory addresses in XP?

Almost certainly RAM to fit your laptop IS AVAILABLE either from its maker or from a third-party vendor. If you want specific help from us, it would be good to repost with exact make and model of your laptop.

Check the website of your laptop maker to find out what type of RAM is needed and how to open it up.

The websites of major RAM vendors such as www.crucial.com and www.kingston.com have lots of technical data on memory, and also search engines where based on the type of computer you have it gives recommendations for suitable memory. They even tell you such things as special constraints that apply to your computer, such as for instance in some computers if you have two modules they must both bt the same capacity or whatever.

Thanks for your suggestion. But no additional RAM module is installed in my notebook. That's means the problem RAM is soldered onboard! It's no help to check Crucial or Kingston, they provide RAM module only, not RAM chips. Also, my notebook is a Japanese domestic model, while I'm now not in Japan, I can't send it back to Japan for repairing. I've disassemble the notebook and located the onboard RAM chip, I can find some engineer to do the soldering work, but I can buy the RAM chip from the market! So, one of the easy solution is to setup XP to exclude the problem memory region. Any suggestion? - Ken

Joe's List / System cleanup

I have never heard of any PC, laptop or otherwise that had memory chips soldered to the system board. Time for a new laptop. How old is it? Does it also have a couple vacuum tubes :-)

What make and model is your notebook? I'd like to see if I can f ind any specifications for it online. Also, didn't mean to make fun of your problem. I understand how irritating it can get when working on problems like this. I was just being facetious.

No worry, the RAM chip in my notebook is Samsung K4S511632, I already collect all information for this chip, the existing problem is I can't order just one or two of this chip to replace the fault chip. It's an outdated module, and no vender offer just one or two. - Ken

Try this one. Doesn't say anything about large quantities, maybe you'll get lucky. http://www.sierraic.com/pnresults.asp?part=K4S511632&btnsearch=Search
