Question about 'When I choose ''Shut Down'' from the Start Menu, my computer restarts instead of shutting down'

I have a question about When I choose "Shut Down" from the Start Menu, my computer restarts instead of shutting down:

I have a problem with shutdown, and windows xp. I hope someone can help. I have just installed a burner and roxio easy cd creator and my computer has not shutdown properly since. Also my d drive is not acessible. I have had my computer to a technician and He said I may have to change my operating system but I really like xp. Does anyone have a suggestion for me. Greatly appreciated.

Everyone says install patches from Roxio and Microsoft. Most say uninstall Roxio and use Nero. Try a trial version for 30 days at nero.com.

Go to the Control Panel>Power Options area. I believe it was solved by enabling APM
(Advanced Power Management). Also, I believe I disabled Hibernation (I hate that
anyway). In Win98 SE, there was an option to allow your power button to hibernate
or shut down, which is now gone.

I've had the same problem. It's very annoying. I've found the fisk though! There's an option you need to disable. I believe it's under Control Panel - System - Advanced - Start up and recovery, turn off the "Automaticallly restart on system failure." I think that is it. It's makes you wonder why it screw up doesn't it? I would also look for all updates for your hardware/software. Maybe looking for a BIOS upgrade would be a good idea as well.

I can't believe it! I did exactly the same( installed roxio) and also have the same problem with shutdown. I uninstalled roxio but still no proper shutdown. Also at first, my d. drive was not recognised. Did you by any chance install the platinum version, if so it has some serious flaws. Try installing the basic program, at least your c.d writer will work. Will let you know if I find a solution, I'm trying hard!!!!Please acknowledge this so I can email you.

I had the same exact problem for over a year. I just found out that Roxio Eazy CD Creator 5.00 has a bug on it that needs tobe corrected with the latest patch plus after this patch you will need to intall a new driver available both of them on their website. Now I have no more problems with Restarts after shutdowns.
