re: Question about 'Use Multiple Languages on a Single System'

I am having the same problem but the other way around. I have installed in English
but one of the users in my household would prefer to login in French. I have changed
the regional settings to french and eliminated all other options in the language
bar but it still boots into english. Now, I have looked on the Microsoft site and
there is one tech note on the subject that states something about editting the register
file and rebooting. I have not tried this yet since it could be dangerous according
to the notes at the bottom of the description. If anyone knows the real answer please
help. ...P.S., my boss' computer boots in french for his kids and english for himself.
He got his out of the box from Dell so someone out there knows how to do it.

Hi, here is the long story: I searched and searched many forums. I called my local
ms rep to find more info - they never returned my call. I bugged and bugged my local
retailer and he couuldn't get a copy nor could figure out what I was talking about.
I called a friend of mine that works for ms and we after several weeks of email
determined that I cannot buy the MULanguage pack software. It is only available
to corporate or multiseat licensed users. There are apparently 5 disks that cover
off all of the languages that ms supports in this bundle called the MULpack. I would
have paid for the software but ms does not believe that there are MUL on retail machines.
In the end I found a "corporate" friend who lent me the disk that contained french
and I did an install on my machine at home - that went easy. Today my wife works
in french and myself in english - sorry ms I would have paid for it but you forced
me to grab a copy.

It's called MUI (multilingual user interface) and you are correct, it's only available
to corporate customers, or people with an MSDN subscription. It'll only run on Windows
XP Professional, or Windows 2000 Professional (different discs for each respective
OS)
here's the link for xp pro:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/techinfo/planning/multilingual/default.asp
Once you get it loaded though,it's really quite nice.
Keep in mind that you can also do that sort of thing with gnome running on redhat
linux (or any other similar config)
