Question about 'How do I know if I can delete a specific file?'

I have a question about How
do I know if I can delete a specific file?:
An .exe file was put onto my computer by an outside source through the internet,
and now i can't delete it because it says it's being used by another program or person.
I have tried editing and deleting in dos, it says that it's a read-only file and
can't be edited. I need to get this off my computer because i believe it's allowing
others to access it.

Hi, Go to http://grc.com/default.htm and scroll down to "Shields Up" Click-in
and then scroll down to "Test My Shields" and "Probe My Ports", this won't fix anything
but will let you see if your computer is open to attack. Also, while there, read
the article "Denial of Service" about the thirteen year old hacker; this article
contains a test to see if your computer is being accessed by hackers. Good luck.

Click Start and Run in the box type CMD and hit enter. Now type attrib -r and the
name of your file, it would look like this...attrib -r myfile.exe. Hit enter. You
should be able to open or edit the file. If you can't delete it, put in your Win
2000 CD and boot from it. Start recovery console and type del and the name of your
file and hit enter. It should be gone. Take out the CD and boot normally. Good Luck.
