Question about 'How to Share Files through Windows XP's Internet Connection Firewall'

I have a question about How to Share Files through Windows XP's Internet Connection Firewall:

I followed your steps but I ran into a problem. I have one machine with WinXP and another machine with Win98. I am networking them together via the Linksys Cable/DSL router. The one with XP can 'talk' with the one with 98, but the one with 98 can't talk with the one with XP. When I disable the firewall, they can talk fine. The ports you mentioned in the article didn't apply to this situation. Are there more ports I can use or what? Please HELP! Thanks Matt Please note: When I say talk, I mean share files, etc.

Matt,

I am not privy to what other communication you have had on your particular problem; you only mention it here, so I can only tell you that you cannot have XP's firewall enabled using a Linksys Router which has a builtin firewall too. I have the same setup as yourself and experienced identical results after enabling the XP firewall; the network "died" on the Win 98SE client computer. But since you haven't supplied any other information as to what you are actually wanting to fix and/or do, I can't comment any further. Perhaps you have left the original thread to make a new post, but in doing so, you hindered people like myself who perhaps could help but don't have the relevant information.

Jeff

I have several firewalls on my computer, and it is recommended that I remove one. Can you please tell me how to do this?
