I have a question about Dial-Up
Networking Refuses to Remember Passwords: The password is entered, "save password"
is checked and next time there is a different number of asterisks in the line and
the password is not correct.

Hi Larry , follow me on this , it may not make sense but it will work fine. First
write down all the settings of your connection in network connections so you can
re-create the connection later, then delete the connection. If you use OE for e-mail
, go in there and take out your username and password. Now go into the control panel
under "users "and create a second user for your machine in XP, (it can be limited
or admin). Now go and re-create your internet connection , If you are asked if you
want to share this connection with other users , check yes,and put your user and
pass back in OE. It should now retain the correct password , but it will still add
the "masking" characters making the password appear longer , but it will retain the
correct password. Lotsa frustration in this one for me:-) .Good Luck , Case

I just wanted to say a word of thanks to Smokey for his reply on this. (He said
that the extra asterisks/dots were simply added to your password by XP to confuse
the enemy. We were just to ignore them. Well, it worked for me! Thanks again,
Smokey!

Damn...all that is just great isn't it? I mean, I've now spent about ½ an hour searching
for info on those extra asterisks...so let's sum it up - since I've accumulated a
lot of excess knowledge through my vivid search routines:
Microsoft gets a password save bug way back in W95/W98
They publizise a work-around (pretty technical but works)
The SAME problem appears in ME and W2K - (and eventually a different work-arounds
appear)
Now, in XP they've apparantly said "What the Hell, let's put it in there INTENTIONALLY
- or actually, LET'S NOT BUT PRETEND WE DID, so we can fool the enemy..!"
Meanwhile all the users that actually discovered this well-known bug again and tried
to find new ways to eliminate it have wasted their time completely and are feeling
pretty insulted...
I sorta rest my case here...are those guys complete morons??

Got a similar problem with XP Dial Up Passwords, Every time i reboot the PC, the
username & password fields are blank, even though the save password box is checked
Anyone got any ideas?

I have exactly the SAME damn problem .... reboot the machine and your saved username
and passwords are GONE !!!! Damn irritation, especially since the info for the AT&T
dial-up account are complicated.
