It works for me better than it did on win2k. I just installed it with straight autorun.
Maybe it is a hardware incompatability with the sims under winxp

HI
TheSims will run on XP but you need to go to microsoft.com and download the windows
xp patch. I have a Dell pentium 4 with XP downloaded the sims after downloading
the patch.
This will do it for you.

I completely understand the frustration of XP

I completley understand your frustration. I just bought The Sims Superstar and I
CAN'T get it to work with my XP either. It freezes up my screen and just won't play.
I have tried everything also, I have done a complete reload from The Sims, Livin'
Large, Hot Date, Vacation, House Party, Unleashed, to Superstar and it still won't
work after Unleashed. There has got to be someone out there that can help!!

SAME Here, I even downloaded the patch and still nothing..it loads gets to the neighborhood
screen and thats it. I read that there is a Intel Chip compatibility problem..Does
anyone know how to fix it? It seems we all have the same problem with XP, someone
who has got it to work must have the solution.

re: I have the solution

The solution to The Sims Superstar freezing at the neighborhood screen is to create
a shortcut on your desktop to open The Sims. I suggest doing it in larger viewing
mode. To create a shortcut go into the Maxis/The Sims folder and right click on
the program and then choose "create shortcut" to your desktop. After you have created
the shortcut, right click on the shortcut on your desktop and choose "Properties".
In properties there is a line that says "Target". This is how system reads that
the program should open. Don't delete anything in the line but after what is already
typed in the (including the ") type a space and then -w
This will cause the game to open up in a window. It won't show on your entire screen
but you will at least be able to play. This is the only way I have found to play
it. If anyone has any better suggestions, please let me know. Or, if you have questions,
you can ask me.
I hope this helps everyone.

I have a brand new Gateway computer barely a year old and it came with all the sims
games up to vacation, and I have since purchased all other expansions including "
Makin' Magic ", and they all work fine. I have never had to download any patches
of any kind. I also am running Windows xp (Home Addition). I wish I could help out
with a solution. All I can think of is go to Gateway and maybe ask someone there
for assistance, as they sell The Sims line with their computers and maybe know the
trick.

Try Disabling the AGP Texture Acceleration for your Display.
Go to Start/Run/ Type dxdiag, Go to the display tab. Disable AGP Texture Acceleration.
This will let your Sims Load.
So Far we have gotten all sims installed except Makin Magic, and its all working
in windows xp.

I found a solution on mircosofts website. it's very tedious, but in the end it resolved
the issue.
I noticed I wasn't able to access the command prompt unless i used cmd. It can be
frusterating, be sure you have someone that has an understanding of DOS to help you.
Hope this works for everyone!!!
