Use NTAccess
The Windows XP version of NTAccess can be loaded directly from the bootable Windows
XP Setup CD-ROM. If needed, it can still be used with boot disks (software to create
the boot disks can be downloaded from Microsoft). So you either need the bootable
Windows XP Setup CD-ROM or the Windows XP boot disks.
Then you have to copy a few NTAccess files to an empty disks.
Now you can boot with the Windows XP Setup CD-ROM (or disks), load NTAccess from
the disk and replace the password of the administrator account of any Windows XP/2000
System on the machine.

thats all i could find, there's software that doesnt but i cant remember what it
is. sorry

Insert the Windows XP CD into the drive and Boot the computer
Press any key to boot from the CD Rom
Press F6 when the setup starts to boot and prompts you to hit F6 if you need to load
any alternate SCSI Drivers
After setup finishes it will ask you which SCSI drivers you want to load. Press
the ‘S’ key, and select NTAccessXP
Press enter to continue
The NTAccess program will now load, Press enter to reset the administrator password
to “ididit”, eject all disks and reboot.

WinXP Logon Shortcut
If you want Windows XP to log in to your account automatically, you need a single-user
machine.
Click Start and Run.
Type "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes).
Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer."
Enter your password.
Set the login you'd like to use every time.
Click OK
XP

I have the same problem with the login.
How can I go to the Start menu if the Welcome screen asks me first for the password?
I never had a password and the system does not accept when I type a "blank" password.

I have the same problem.
The system asks for a password I never had and does not accept a "blank" password.
Do the Power tools solve this problem? How can I run them if the system keeps me
stuck in the Welcome screen.
Thanks in advance.

Sal,
Did you find out how to solve this problem? My daughter's laptop has suddenly started
to ask her for her password - but she never used one before and can't get access
to her machine.

Hi,
1. Boot with a DOS disk.
2. Navigate to the %SystemRoot%\Security\Database folder using the DOS commands.
3. Rename Secedit.sdb to Secedit.old_sdb.
4. Copy an operational Secedit.sdb from a Windows platform of the same type. Local
computer, not server.
5. Shutdown and restart the problem computer.
Good luck,
Sal

i booted of a ME startup disk and none of the drive letters seemed to be the one
for the OS so i couldnt go to c:windows,security,database..etc on the troublesome
computer. I took the HD out and put it in my good computer and copied the secedit.sdb
file from my HD to the replace the one on the bad HD. Put that bad HD back in its
machine and still the same problem...
also, when i pressed "s" after pressing f6 on the winxp setup screen, it said "insert
a manufacturer diskette" or some kind and i didnt get the option to do NTAccess at
all.....NTAccess also doesnt appear to be on the XP disk...i would expect it to be
an executeable of some kind on the cd, but i'm not sure it works that way...Thanks!

This may seem obvious but on Windows XP Home - press F8 during start-up. Log in as
Administrator with a blank password.
