Go to the properties of the connection, on the options tab and uncheck the "prompt
for name and password..." option

Could anyone help me beyond this? I've got the dial-up network actually replacing
my password with another one, longer than my correct password. It does this every
time I reboot.

This happened to me, too. As far as I can tell, that is merely a security feature
(it lists your password as something like 12 characters, so people can't tell how
long it really is). Mine lists it as 12 long also, but I login fine with the password-rememberer
and my password is only 7 chars long.
