Question about Special folders (My Documents, My Music etc)
Saturday, March 23, 2002 at 8:33 am
Posted by Gareth Evans (1 messages posted)

I have used tweak ui to change the location of the 'my documents' folder and 'my music' folder but the original folders are still there (called Gareth's Documents). And there is no way to delete them! I really just want to have one folder if possible and delete which folders I see fit to delete.

Click Start, then Run and type: regsvr32 /u mydocs.dll You can then delete the MyDocuments folder/sub-folders like EBooks, etc.

Hello, I don't know who to contact about this problem. I am having problems with downloading a game in Yahoo Games. It tells me I need JVM when I find it to download it, it tells me it no longer exists. Where else can I go to get this JVM or what other kind of java can I download that will allow me to play Yahoo games? I have already cleared out cookies, temp. internet files, etc...and that has not worked. Please help me, have been struggling with this problem for some time now. Thank you!

Sonia, Microsoft is no longer providing JVM as a separate plugin. It is now part of Windows XP Service Pack 1. JVM will be installed automatically if you install the service pack. Hope that helps...

Gareth, You just need to move the folder C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents to whichever drive you choose. In that case, you will have only one "My Documents" Folder. Hope that helps...

As was replated by others, MicroSoft will not provide their JVM. I Fact the user that said to install SP1, has not readed about the newer SP1a that replace it. this newer Service Pack does not have the JVM. So the best place to get a Java JVM is form Sun the link below is to the Standard released version 1.4.1 http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/download.html Additionally there are Enterprise Edition Versions and others. Browse around Sun site and you'll find them. ttfn, webjr

I was reading the forum and came across this. I followed these directions (Click Start, then Run and type: regsvr32 /u mydocs.dll You can then delete the MyDocuments folder/sub-folders like EBooks, etc.) and thought an options menu or something would pop up. But now I cant use my documents icon. Didnt mean to do that. Is there a way to -Undo- this?

You just unregestered the dll. You can simply reregister it again by typing:

regsvr32 mydocs.dll

Is there a way i can rectify this? Or can you enlighten me of the proper site to go to learn about this? is this a common problem? I have been to sun java but i cant find anything that would help, unless i don't understand the, which is quite possible, knowing what an idiot i am in computer. I hope you can help me. Joanne.

The latest Java VM (1.4.2) does'nt work well for older applications on XP (sometimes I wonder who is more screwed up Microsoft or Sun). Your best bet would be to get it from Microsoft. Its called MSJVM. They're going to discontinue support sometime in 2004. Try http://microsoft.com/java or search Microsoft's web site.

open media player 9

navigate to tools/options/copy music tab

in "copy music to this location" click the "change" button. choose location other
than "my music" and hit the "apply" button. you should be able to delete the "my
music" folder now. worked for me. hope it is permanent.

anyone looking to reinstall the older version of microsoft java machine (javasoft) that you unintentialy deleted....set your clocks year back to 2002, use the same day just the 2002 year, then type in java under your look for filles and folders, right click on the file then open it ,reinstall the program...the computer will then shut down apon reboot your goback program will ask you to fix the date, do that and it will reboot...problem solved. this took me 1 week to figure out but it works....racerx

Thanks, ralph. This worked like a charm, whereas Clark's advice to "click Start, then Run and type: regsvr32 /u mydocs.dll" did absolutely nothing to solve the problem. It's a small annoyance, but worth ridding onself of.

I want to still use the MyDocuments folder if possible (though I could just make my own). Is there an individual dll for MyMusic, eBooks, MyPictures, etc.? Or do I have to unregister all of MyDocuments to get rid of one folder? Thanks

I followed what is recommended here: go to run & type in 'regsvr32 /u mydocs.dll' Then, a box entitled regsvr32 popped up saying: dllunregisterServer in mydocs.dll succeeded' - click ok. I had no oppty to delete the subfolders. I still have not clicked 'ok'. Any ideas about this? It seems very scary.

I have this same problem, where I changed the location of MyDocuments, and now I have a whole other folder called "Jim's Documents" which contains the exact same contents as my old MyDocuments folder. I have tried the advice suggested here with no success. I still have a MyDocuments folder (which is fine) AND a "Jim's Documents" folder (which is not fine) that I can neither rename nor delete. I don't want to unregister the DLL for MyDocuments altogether, I just want to remove the EXTRA occurance of it (Jim's Documents) completely. How can I do this??

You need to do the same action with Realplayer too, otherwise it will re-create "My
Music".

Realplayer 10:
Tools -> preferences
Choose General from list on the left-hand pane
Change location of "My Library Files"

BTW, in Media Player 10 it is:
Tools -> Options -> Rip Music -> Change

BTW2: I agree, Start -> Run and type: regsvr32 /u mydocs.dll" does not work.
