Folder default action

I added a custom action (prompt here) to a file folder in Windows XP. Now, for some reason, the default action when I double click on a folder is to "Search..." not "Open" the folder. I've tried setting the default action, but "Open" doesn't appear as an action to set the default to on a File Folder. Now, I have "Open" set as the default for a "Folder" type, but that doesn't seem to help. It's very frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -Bob

Hi Bob,
open up your registry and make your way to these two places:-
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell

and in the right side of both, double-click:-
(Default)
and add the word:-
none

Yes I suppose it is a bug, and a rather annoying one.

Thank you for helping Bob solve his problem.. I too had a similar problem once I installed the Prompt Here powertool, but within 5 minutes of finding this web site, I had the problem fixed, thanks to your post. :) I just wanted to say thanks, for making answers to (relatively) easy questions available to those of us who need them :)

Ok i had the exact same problem ... now when i fixed it as you suggested, it worked however, when i double click on a folder in Windows Explorer, it opens it up in it's new window now as opposed to how it used to do it (just explore it inside windows explorer).... lemme know if that's a common thing too, or weather i screwed something up if possible thanks in advance
