Question about 'How do I make the background of desktop icon text transparent?'

The background color changed on its own. I made sure that checkbox is checked, but
it didn't work. I've seen this before, but it went away when I rebooted. This time
it won't.

Open System Properties in Control Panel, choose the Advanced tab, and click Settings
in the Performance section. Turn on the Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop
option, and click Ok.
You can also try MicroAngelo (v5.5 or later), which allows you to change the text
color, configure custom icons, and change other aspects of Windows.
Another utility of this type is WindowFX.

Hi,
Make certain that you do *not* have "Lock desktop items" enabled. You can find this
option by going to to Display Properties, then clicking on the "Desktop" tab and
clicking the "Customize Desktop" button (below the list of wallpapers). A second
dialogue will appear, and you will need to click the "Web" tab and uncheck "Lock
desktop items." Now your icon text should be rendered with transparent backgrounds.

Hi, I've tried all of the above but still can't get it to be transparent. Anyone
got any other suggestions - not a problem with SP1 perhaps?

I had the same problem and just figured out how to change the setting back. The
other descriptions were close, but in addition to going to display>Desktop>customize>web,
uncheck any boxes that say "display website" at top of screen. Hit OK and apply.
This should get rid of the problem.

Thanks for the posts. This worked for me, too. Unchecking the display web pages,
unchecking the Use Drop Shadows for Icons..., and then rechecking the Use Drop Shadows
for Icons...
Thanks, All.
