Contol Panel/Folder Options/File Types/*.Image
Click at every image extention you want to change, click advance button - New button
- under Action box type "preview" without quote - Browse and refer to C:\Program
Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSPaper\MSPVIEW.EXE - click Ok.
And if you change your mind and want to get it back, simply remove the above preview
action you have made.

Or you could try the easy way:-
Click "Start", click "Run", and type this:-
regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dl
Then click "OK".

Or EVEN EASIER.. is like this
regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll
as it works much better with the .dll instead of .dl ;)

I wanted to preview my Photoshop images with Photoshop. I followed your instructions
and put in photoshop.exe for the "browse" program and it worked great!
By the way, mspview.exe doesn't exist on my computer...I did a search of all hard
drives...
Thanks for the help-you got me on the right track!

I also ran this and it worked.
Is there a way to restore the image preview?

Edit the XP registry.
Hive: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
Key: SystemFileAssociations\image\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers\ShellImagePreview
Name: (Default)
Type: REG_SZ
To enable Preview, set Value: {e84fda7c-1d6a-45f6-b725-cb260c236066}
To disable Preview, set Value: blank

To reverse the 'regsrv32 /u shimgvw.dll' command tip given above do the following:-
Click 'Start'
Choose 'Run...'
Enter the line below:-
regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll
After a moment you'll get a dialog box telling you if it was successful.
This re-installs the image viewer so it's back as it was when XP ships.
