runtime error on every IE6 popup ''Class doesn't support Automation'', please help!

Every time Internet Explorer 6 opens a popup window I get the following runtime error! "Class doesn't support Automation" This happens for all popups from any site on the net, apart from this annoying error message the popup loads ok. Only my sanity is at stake! I have looked just about everywhere on the net, closest I came to was installing the latest MS VM build 3805, but the error still remains! Anyone have a cunning plan? Thanks in advance......

Do you have Visual Studio installed?? I get that error ever since I installed VS, and it also goves me the option to debug.

Do you have any "pop-up ad blockers" running? That was the issue with mine. I was getting the same error message and as soon as I turned off my pop up blocker, the error message magically disappeared when I started browsing again.

I'm getting the error on other sites from their javascript or from my own simple javascript, such as if I create a window then try to write to it. Really annoying. I didn't see it in IE5 and not in any netscape. I did have visual studio installed but I uninstalled it and it's not launching anything as far as I can tell but who knows what wierd crap msoft left. I had sql server, too, so who knows. It looks like msoft is going to start breaking javascript the way NS6 did. You don't get not peace.

In your IE window, go to "Tools/internet options/advanced tab/DISABLE SCRIPT DEBUGGING" Check that box. Problem gone, enjoy!

This is not a fix. All it does is hiding the error message and no alert window will pop up. And the problem is still here.

You could try to go to add/remove programs, select IE, then repair IE. Or you could download the latest version of Windows Scripting Host (WSH) to update your Javascript.

I have the same problem in IE6 then I downgraded to IE5.5 - same problem. It won't go away. I thought it might have something to do with the "this is a customized version of Internet Explorer" in the about tab. I can't remove IE5.5 so I'm stuck with this.

I had the same problem after de-installing a trial version of ScriptBuilder 3.0. The de-install removed some entry in the registry. After running Regsvr32 against msscript.ocx, dispex.dll, vbscript.dll and re-assign C:\WINNT\System32\WScript.exe "%1" %* to file type .js the problem disappeared.

click on start, choose run and type in: regsvr32 msscript.ocx Do the same for the other dll. For the file type .js, go to windows explorer and under folder option you see a list of extension, scroll down to .js and verify the entry for the open action. It should use Wscript.exe "%1" %* .

Man you all if this is the end of my yellow brick road and this actually works I will fall over and die with absolute glee. I've hunted all over the damn net for this problem, google and yahoos, knowledge base articles and java vm sites you name it. An occasional german site and irrelvent vbscript page only frustrated me more. Anyway, here it goes... if this works I'll kiss you!

Here is a more detailed explanation of what to do. go to your RUN window from the start menu. 1. type in "regsvr32 msscript.ocx" and hit enter 2. do the same with dispex.dll, and vbscript.dll 3. open windows explorer, select folder options in the tools drop down. 4. select the file types tab 5. scroll down to the extension type JS, highlight it and hit the advanced button 6. highlight the Open command and hit the edit button. If you have more than one "Open" command showing (which was part of my problem)delete one of them. 7. In the field "application used to perform action" paste in this - C:\WINNT\System32\WScript.exe "%1" %* your done.

Used a tiny tiny script called JustSoPicWindow to make small popups from a gallery (www.clubcavi.dk) which stopped working.... But only on my OWN PC.... Grrrr..... I KNEW it was a matter of time before one of my best friends, Google, would solve it (and knew it would not be Microsoft themselves....) and tonight was my lucky night! The "fix" worked for me too... I know I am starting to sound like the rest of you guys (male/female) but: THANK YOU VERY MUCH! Not an obvious solution, but it works! :-)

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I too have been wrestling with a solution to this silly problem. It was only effecting some pop ups. The error did not always come from the same class so it was a bit mysterious. I figured it had something to do with VB6 but I also installed Front Page 2002 and had suspicions about that. Thanks again

Ray, if you're typing it in exactly that way then you've omitted the space between
regsvr32 and the dlls. Try regsvr32 msscript.ocx
etc...

Been dealing with this issue for months, thank you to the poster who let us know the proper .dlls to re-register. The dispex.dll was the one that worked for me. I tested this by unregistering and re-registering the dll several times. If you are missing it you can get it here: http://dll.yaroslavl.ru/index.php3?lng=&in_char=D I'm not sure how current it is though. The Cause: One of two things, either a bogus update from MS (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com) that breaks the scripting mechanism by unregistering files and not registering them again. Or The Visual Studio .NET installation on IE6 SP1. That's what I've come up with after a little research. If you know of another means, please post! I am just happy to have things back in working order!!!!!! DeAdWhAcKeR

Here´s my first post!
I am using Windows XP with Internet Explorer 6.0.2800.1106 with SP1 and a few updates
(last was Q330994).
I fixed this issue by clicking on "Start Menu" - "Run", and entering the following
entries on command prompt:

regsvr32 msscript.ocx [enter]
regsvr32 dispex.dll [enter]
regsvr32 vbscript.dll [enter]

That worked fine for me...Bye!

''regsvr32 msscript.ocx'' problem
Saturday, November 1, 2003 at 9:54 pm
Posted by Steve (2 messages posted)

For anyone having a problem with Windows Update because of "msscript.ocx" problem
try downloading a new script package at:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/webdev.asp

Reboot your computer and it should solve the problem.

Even if you get an error message when you try to RUN "regsvr32 msscript.ocx" your
computer should now allow you to use the Windows Update site without any problems.

Wow! I've been searching for patches, downloads, service packs.... during months.

It's a problem when a parent window can't be accessed from its child window. But
it's even more problematic when you simply cannot do a Windows Update!

The most curious thing is that I got into the forum after completing a 9-steps manual......
and finally there was a link to this forum. Ironic.

This has worked for me and others:

Try:

Go to "Start", "Run", and type the following and press enter:

regsvr32 msscript.ocx
regsvr32 dispex.dll
regsvr32 vbscript.dll

It seems Microsoft patches between Service Pack 1 and Service Pack 2 cause this.......
A complete nightmare as some customers are getting the same problem now, which suggests
a recent patch more towards Service Pack 2. Can you let me know if it works for
you or not.

Cheers

You may also want to go into your Windows Explorer/tools/folder options/file types and check the JS and JSE extensions. Go into advanced and check for multiple Opens (Open, Open2). Delete one of them (probably Open2). Make sure the application is... C:\WINNT\System32\WScript.exe "%1" %* ...or whatever your system directory is.

re: runtime error on every IE6 popup ''Class doesn't support Automation'', please help!

I had this problem for 1.5 years and finally got it fixed partly by information provided here. I was completely missing the dispex.dll file and had to download Microsoft Windows Script 5.6 (Windows 2000, XP) from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=C717D943-7E4B-4622-86EB-95A22B832CAA&displaylang=en Then I followed directions here for regsvr32. Thanks.

Thanks finally worked, but before it worked I received error message: The module xxx.dll was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x8002801c. I THEN SEARCHED THIS ERROR and there was a post that said to type in cmd in the search box above the start orb, at the top of the start menu you will see cmd.exe, then right click on it and select " act as administrator " then worked so well! All is fixed, yipeee! Thanks for all your help everyone!
