Question about 'Customize Windows XP Styles'

I have a question about Customize Windows XP Styles:

. Is it true that every time I change any display setting to customize colors/fonts I'm causing the logos for sites on my desktop to become generic "e"s? I like to customize the colors and fonts on my desktop, and for awhile it was a work in progress which had no negative behaviors as a result. Sometimes I'm at a site and not changing a setting when I lose the logos and they go generic...and I don't always lose some/all logos when I change a color or font. I've heard enough conflicting stories from H-P tech support that I'm beginning to think nobody's telling me the truth about anything. It makes no sense that I can't refresh all icons at once, but must open each one and drag it onto the desk top to replace the prior one to get site logos back. Seems there's gotta be a less tedious way to get it done and suspect that they just want to keep me trying things until I burn out on making the effort. Not all sites' logos are affected, and there is variation in those that are from one time to another. It's not always the same ones that stay or go. In prior computer, logos would all refresh with re-boot, but that's not happening here. IS CUSTOMIZING a color or font LIKELY CAUSAL or even remotely related to ANY OF IT? I'd be grateful for any input.
