Tom: DLL World amd dll-files.com do not have xpspy.dll listed; not conclusive, but
sounds a warning bell.

Might be a good time to go into security check mode:
1. run Ad-Aware for spyware.
2. run an anti-virus scan.
3. send a copy of the file to your anti-virus folks and ask for an opinion.
4. ask your cable support about it.
5. rename the file xpxxx.dll and see what happens.
6. disable any new programs in your Startup folder.

Ad-Aware and Norton's Antivirus say I have no infected files. And when I search for the xpspy.dll file I cannot find it in my computer. My computer now works when I shut off run.dll during startup. Is there a way to fix the problem by doing something to run.dll?

Tom: you are close to a solution...go after that run.dll. Right-click for properties
and see what it says. You may identify a Startup program that you can live without,
then delete it or at least disable it.

If you can't figure what it's for, then rename it rat.dll and see if it makes any
difference in how your computer operates. If you can operate fine that way, then
leave it renamed for awhile and delete it later.

I had the same problem and I worked on it for about 2 hours before I was able to find a solution. Boot up into safe mode...and go to the run command type in regedit and hit the edit tap and click on find. in this field type xp ohne.exe. hit the find button....delete this string...there will probably be only one reference. After you have done that go to the startup file and delete or rename any references to programs you aren't sure of....most likely you will see a Icon of two squares inter-connected......this should solve your problem.....also after you reboot run a chkdsk.

Hey? I had the same problem and I solved it with a System Restore. I'm intrigued, though. I wonder what is the root of this problem.

Unfortunately I was no so lucky, after it shut my system down I tried to reboot only to find my system files corrupted. And unable to access my system, even in safe mode. I even ripped the Hard Drive out and set at slave put it in a second machine to try salvage my files. Only to fine nothing, nada no files, nothing at all. I put it back in original machine as master again only to get invalid system msg. Oh and the counter I got was not 1 min, but 30 secs.
