Question about 'How do get the taskbar and desktop back if Explorer crashes'

I have a question about How
do get the taskbar and desktop back if Explorer crashes:
Recently i upgraded from Win Me to Windows Xp Professional. Before when i was using
Me i had once installed Ads Off to kill the popups that appear during browsing. Then
i didnt like it so i uninstalled it. There was no problem in ME. But now after installing
Xp a dialog box appears saying -
w32sock.dll not found !
AdsOff cant run !
Please see our help files.
This happens when--
1) I right click on my Desktop
2) I select a html page in explorer
When i click ok the explorer restarts. This is causing a lot of problems and its
very frustrating. I saw in Add/Remove programs but ads off is not listed there. There
is no program folder for it in Program Files either nor are there any keys related
to ads off or its company in the registry. I think this problem is somehow related
to IE. But i cant uninstall IE either.

I would first reinstall 'AdsOff', and then uninstall it properly using 'Add/Remove
Programs'. I don't know the programme (I just close the pop-up each time one appears
- it's very simple and requires no software!) but it sounds as if it's not XP compatible
anyway....

Hi
I'm a bit late, as I see, but I hit this thread by a google
search anyway, as I had similar problems.
Probably Your problem is solved since months but I
got faced with this 'explorer-crash-issue' from time
to time... so what's the story?
If explorer crashes and the taskbar/desktop dissapears
and you kinda don't want to reboot there's a way to
get it running again: Hit CTRL+ALT+DEL to get the task
manager. Then go file - new task (run) and type
'explorer'. Hit 'enter' and here we go...
(Talking 2000/XP, anything older is an only annoyance...)
Bye
