remember the lawsuit against microsoft that has been going on now for several years?
these components are just like internet explorer - they are incorporated into the
operating system & cannot be uninstalled.

Unless they have taken it out of the final version of SP1 due out this month, there
will be an option to uninstall it.
I had the chance to play with a pre-release version, and the option was there...

I have seen several hacks and tools that might allow you to do just that, one involving
opening the c:\windows\inf\sysoc.inf file and removing the word "hide" from each
line. However, on my XPSP1 system this doesn't allow actual removal of these items,
just showing them. At any rate, 2000/xplite from www.litepc.net seems to still be
vaporware, and that is what we're all really waiting for...

at least in the final release of XPSP1, those aren't actually options to remove them,
just options to remove their shortcuttage. so basically, it's still wasting space
on the HD and anything that is hardcoded to open with outlook (say, a Klez virus
attachment file or something) would still work with 100% compatability :/
