nVidia WDM Video Capture service failed

Almost everytime I start up XP I get a very slugish computer. I have taken a look at the event log to see if there is a program not responding at start up and this is what I have found. 1 error EVERY time my computer bogs down at start up. the description I get is: The nVidia WDM Video Capture (universal) service failed to start due to the following error: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. I have found the offending prog/driver in the Device Manager under Non-Plug and Play drivers. it has a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it and when I click on the triangle this is what is written: This device is not present, is not working properly or does not have all it's drivers installed (code 24) Does anyone know how to fix this? I can't uninstall it and re-install because I have no idea what it is. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Let me guess you also have an asus motherboard right? I have the same problem it is practically impossible to play games online and my porgrams stall often. Now my computer is a brand new P4 2.0ghz with 578mgs of ram and this kind of crap bothers the hell outta me! I just want a computer that works. Seems to me none ever do. What I did was I emailed Asus, Microsoft, and my graphics card company. I hjave recieved no response, but have realized that that lots of people have this very same porblem. All my computer says is that it cannot start WDM video Capture. There is no trouble shoot answer and ive tried everything. All we can do is hope that Microsoft and asus do something to fix this. Oh and one other thing, what the hell is up with retarded driver signing like every company in the world wants to waiste time sending programs to XP just to get them signed its bogus all in all i think XP is a waiste of time and if i could easily I would go back to linux or windows 95.

"nVidia WDM Video Capture" is the nVIDIA hardware driver for your graphics card to capture e.g. videos into your computer via SVHS and/or analog vidio Input. I have the same Problem with my computer! But I have a brandnew MSI Starforce Ti4200 VTD64 on a Gigabyte 7VRXP Mainboard - everything is fine except of this "nVidia WDM Video Capture" and I really need it for getting videos into my computer. I just assembled a Leadtek graphics-card for my brother on the same board - this constitution couldn't even be installed with Windows XP Pro! What I did: I installed Win2000Pro and "everything" worked fine. If I couldn't find a better driver or fix for WinXP I have to reinstall the system to Win2000Pro -but this would take me a hell of a time not - so I look for better solutions. But I don't think this crap M$ WindowsXP people even know or if they don't care about a few people assembling their own PC. cya - horst s.

I also have the same problem. The problem existed on an Epox and Asus mobo. I think it`s a problem with XP and the nvidia driver. To get it working I have to install the 21.83 nvidia drivers that came with my MSI geforce 3. I tried the new personal cinema drivers from nvidia and also the 30.00 drivers from MSI and both cause this error. The problem is that you can`t even update the 3d card driver on it`s own or it will effect the video capture with this problem again. XP is really bad at dealing with driver problems and in my opinion this error is between microsoft and nvidia. Any Ideas!

Sounds familiar.. I'm running a AMD Athlon XP+ 2100, with Elitegroup K7VTA3 motherboard, with exactly the same problem. As far I haven't encountered any errors while running programs, though it is really annoying with a new computer that doesn't work properly. Anyone got an advice?

The problem seems to be universal. My system crashes both XP and 2K whenever i play games or DVD. I have GigabyteGA-71Xeh MB and nVidia Geforce 2 MX 400 Graphics Card. I've been trying to get it resolved for months but with no success. Nvidia seem to have a very limited download site (for such a large supplier) and Microsoft seem to be ignoring the problem. Where do we turn?

How many problems with this graphic card? I have the same damn problem :(. I just built my PC and got a GeForce2 MX400 64Mb and you already know what happened. I operate with WIN98SE, AMD K7 700MHz. Till now i didn't find anybody to solve the problem. So i have no choice just to send some (1000) e-mails to the providers till they do something. Good Luck guys

I just came across these discussions about WDM things not working with nvidia cards with windows XP and stuff. I have the same problem with my Ti42000 card and also i tried using a belkin video capture device. The worst part is, I can't find any fix from MSI where i bought my G-Force Ti4200, Belkin where I bought Hi-speed usb 2.0 dvd creator (hell they even have mentioned the product is designed for windows XP), and makers of windows XP where I bought my upgrade version for windows XP home - f@%# belkin for mentioning that their product is designed for XP that's the reason i bought the XP in the first place. i am wasting my time searching for any help.

Hmmmmmmmmmm....i am not an alien it seems.....:). Tried everything i know, that geforce2 mx400 just wont work...every time a game runs,it crashes for no reason.I have just about given up on this card, gonna get a geforce4 end of this month,my advice to all who own this damn card.It works a lot better. I'm using a viatech chipset with 512 ram and a 1.7G processor with DX 9,tried all methods: BIOS, driver updates, windows XP, 10,000 emails to tech supports (they never replied and the only one who replied admitted they couldnt find the source),heck, i formatted my entire dirve and reinstalled everything,no luck. There is no solution maybe..;).Did find out something though,it seems there is an error this card causes in the memory dump stacks. Anyone knows more bout this? I would appreciate it.

Solution!! ??? Well, I solved my problem anyhow. I downloaded the newest drivers, changed my graphics card setting to a plain generic vga card , uninstalled the drivers, rebooted and installed the new drivers. Now everything is fine. Let me know if this works for you.

Well I'm glad someone has finally had some success, I gave up in disgust months ago, sent back my ASUS GForce 4 Ti4600 ULTRA DELUXE and got a Radeon 9700 Pro instead, no video capture facility unfortunately, but since it never worked on the nVidia card anyway what's the diference? I was just a little pissed off that none of the tech support people from ASUS ever seemed to read my emails before sending me stock pre written responses, if I ever got a response, that were totally irrelevant to my problem. May ATI live long and prosper. And ASUS & nVidia die horrible painfull deaths. :(

I also have problem installing the latest Nvidia WDM drivers last week on my Windows XP. I could however installed the WDM 1.08 with no problems. I managed to install the latest Nvidia WDM 1.22 with Nvidia driver 41.07 after I upgraded my MSI GeForce 3 Ti 200 card VGA BIOS. I think there are some major changes to the Nvidia driver. As a result, there are problems when installing the latest Nvidia WDM on a PC with a GeForce card using an old VGA BIOS. For the VGA BIOS, you may need to check with the manufacture of your graphics card to see if they have an upgraded BIOS.

Maybe partial solution. (asus p4pe, asus9280VS, xp 512MB) Back to vga, loaded new asus drivers, loaded new asus capture driver. Had trouble with the capture drive as the main exe did nothing and the setup.exe asked if I wanted to remove the drivers -as I thought I had already had, I did not initially follow through. As I was getting nowhere, I did choose the delete existing option. Lo and behold the machine then noted that I had new hardware and would I like to load drivers. So followed through with this and the driver loaded ok - no reboot after.(Had noted in the past that the driver loaded ok then had trouble on reboot) So this time did not reboot but tested out TV reception software (Power director ??)that came with video card. This worked oK, so feeling confident, loaded the latest asus digital vcr software. Worked well. At least I know the stuff can function as is supposed to. Reboot, error 10 again, driver disabled. But being persistent, use the drivers option under control panel, and change the setting to enable - no worries everything OK. (I had heard that someone had determined that the problem was that the video board was not getting sufficient voltage - their solution of cutting wires and soldering components was too drastic for me, but it may be the case that on startup the voltage drain may be sufficient to cause this hiccup, but once the machine is going, the driver loads OK ???) So current working solution, disable driver when not using. Mind you the boot up slows down something terrible, about 40 secs blank screen from the initial windows logo to the XP welcome screen. Hope this is useful

I have an ASUS motherboard with 2 Gforce cards, GForce4 and GForce2, and the PixelView Play TV Pro capture card. The WDM drivers for the GForce4 works with the latest drivers, but the WDM for the Gforce2 doesnt work, which makes the capture card not work.

I have found a great solution for this problem since I wasted more than 2 days, 20+ hours trying to get the nvidia WDM drivers to work.
There's more than 1 way you can watch TV.

1. Use the NVidia WDM Video Capture drivers (doesnt work)
2. Use Conexant Video Capture drivers

When trying to use the NVidia drivers, it crashes the computer, because the WDM drivers will not start, so, I found two 3rd party programs to fix this using option 2, the Conexant drivers.

1. 3rd party drivers for a Bt8xx based video capture card (which includes most video capture cards such as the PixelView Play TV Pro), you can find the drivers at their homepage here: http://btwincap.sourceforge.net

2. 3rd party software to watch TV, ChrisTV. It's not free, but you can try it for 30 days or buy it. I found the latest version, 3.55. Find it here: http://www.chris-tv.com

Here are the step to get your video capture card to work properly:

1. Install the latest NVidia drivers. I installed 53.03 for XP
2. Install the 3rd party WDM drivers (btInstaller.exe)
3. Install ChrisTV
4. In the start menu, go to to ChrisTV folder and choose "ChrisTV Quick Configuration Panel"
5.Change the "Video Capture" source to "Conexant's BtPCI Capture"
6. Uncheck "Use Overlay Mixer Filter" or else ChrisTV will freeze when you start it
7. Run ChrisTV and WATCH TV!!!!!!

Hi ... I have an ASUS motherboard too with PCI-E Geforce 6500 display card . I also have waisted long time trying to install my XFX Personal Cinema card with no luck. Finally I found a good way. I took out the Geforce display card and installed a very old PCI display card (S3 Trio64 4MB). Then installing the XFX Personal Cinema TV card went smooth. Restarted, with every thing great then turned power off, took the S3 display card out and installed the Geforce 6500 card. All the drivers now are fine. However, I lost the XFX Personal Cinema software CD and don't know where to get it from ... any good idea is appreciated???
