Question about 'Top reasons for random, fatal crashes in Windows XP and Windows 2000'

It all started when my XP started to automatically started to scan for errors. (Like
when you didn't shut it down properly). After the scan I got into my computer, which
seemed to work just like normal, I opened my web browser and then I felt like listening
to my mp3s so I opened one of my old songs. The computer suddenly just turned off
and restarted again. This happened to me a couple times before so I suspected it
was only a power surge. I then waited for my computer to start up but when it should
have been loading XP the computer said "Insert Boot Disc, Invalid Disc" (I can't
remember exactly what it said, it siad roughly that).

So naturally I went to microsoft, with my other hard drive to get Start Up software
(which took up 6 floppies, WinXP_EN_PRO_BF.EXE was then name of the file). I did
what the program told me after I inserted and loaded all the files to cure my crashed
system. It then said it encountered an error and that it had to shut down to keep
my computer from damaging itself.

It then gave a technical line that said: 0x0000008E (0X0000006, 0XF82PC1A26, 0XF8oDCA18,
0X00000000)

setupdd.sys - address F84C1A26 base at F84A2000, Datestamp 3b7d8507

I'm in a real jam here, I have a lot of computer game skins that took me months to
make, and media files that took me years to compile. I'm just wondering if there
is anyway I can get back my information.

Windows Support doesn't seem to work, and they said I had to pay for technical support
and my friends all seemed stumped. They only tell me "I hate to say I told you so
but, Bill Gates puts bugs in his products to mess with you. Use Linux, Mac, or the
old school Windows 95-98 OSs. " Which doesn't help me in anyway.

Please somebody help me!

Xp restarted you because you had a three back to back errors(a triple fault). On
the first error it says ok i can handle it, second it says getting pushy, and on
the third it says i cant handle this and reboots. Know to save your work you need
to put any a startup floppy disk and copy files to floppies. If the start up disk
doesn't work your bios is set to boot from the hdd before the flop. you can use any
start up disk you wont(95 - xp).

Michael, to retrieve your data, just put that HD in an XP or WIN2K machine as a slave drive. You should be all set. Good luck.

Probable reason your page file is corrupted. Reboot to safe mode, Click on Windows Key + Break. This should bring you system properties. Tab to Advanced, Performace -> Settings, Tab to advanced under performance settings, Click on change under virtual memory. Choose no page file, click set, then ok.. ok and finally reboot the machine. When reboot is successful, delete the pagefile.sys if still present in C: root directory. Now do the same process goto virtual memory and choose system managed size. Click set, reboot. This should fix your problem. It looks like XP's pagefile needs to be fixed everytime you re-install XP or apply service packs. Hope this resolves. Nat
