I have a question about How do get the taskbar and desktop back if Explorer crashes:

I have xp home upgrade installed over win98SE. The taskbar problem occurs usually when i have copied/cut or pasted in or out of a folder. I had the error reporting to MS turned off and was using the method described in the Annoyances original post to get the task bar back -- sometimes not successful. The other night i re enabled the error reporting process, and if I complete all the steps on the windows generated popups - see more details etc I dont lose the task bar strange problem/fix :) pbyk

I tried this step and it did not work. My problem started when my daughter was downloading a picture from the net while playing a CD. She turned the computer off and now when I turn it on I get the illegal operation box. I have tried safe mode and the box still pops up. In one of the step by step boots, it said line 6 and 7 in the config sys were damaged. What can I try?

Halloa!!!

Simple fix for ya'. Explorer.exe can be rebooted by opening another program that
uses it. First, hit ctrl+alt+delete, which should bring up the task manager. Go into
file, and click "run". Type in "c:" in the box that appears, and hit enter. This
should fix the problem!
