mine does the same, no known cure yet, but I am told it is due to a driver mismatch,
are all your drivers digitally signed & approved? mine shuts windows down but wont
power down.

I am not sure, just formated my win 98 disk, put xp pro on and can not shut down
either. I think it is a BIOS issue, checking around will post if I find a cure

I had the same problem with XP and found the solution by tweaking the settings in
the Advanced Power Management portion of the Control Panel....
I'm sorry that I don't remember what exact setting it was - except that now my machine
shuts down as it is supposed to....
Hope this helps...

Hello
Did you find a cure? My XP won't shut down. Displays a sign that it is "shutting
down". Is this sposed to take forever? Mine does.

If you have Nero installed on your PC, uninstall it as ther are many bugs which causes
conflict with XP. This is reported on Microsofts Knowledgebase website but I'll be
damned if I can find it when I need it!!!

I am almost positive it is the trigger switch inside your power supply that is not
switching off. Your windows is trying to shut down, however:the power supply is not
switching off, so power will always be present.
Change your power supply or just continue shutting it off manually.

I have built a new computer since then, so it is no longer an issue for me!

With XP you may have to change bios settings and timings. This cured my problem
- ram speed vs. agressive speed settings - worked at a mid range of clocking but
not at highest or slowest settings.

at all. If you find the problem please email it to me (Choupicc@HotMail.Com) Thanks.

Ditto. Built 4 new PCs. 1 x P4/Gigabyte Mobo, 3 x Sempron/MIS Mobo. All with XP
Pro. The 3 Sempron/ MIS combo will not power off. XP shuts down to black screen,
but power is still on. Have researched MSoft kbid=810903, tried ACPI settings, checked
Control Panel power settings, blah blah. I would be keen to hear from some-one who
has experienced this and FIXED it.

I had this same problem for a while, I fixed it by uninstalling the NVidia nForce
drivers. It was causing an IRQ conflict as well as unregistering my programs.

Ok, so I had this problem too. It's pretty weird if you ask me, I also had an annoying
lag that came with it. My power settings were set to "Always On". All I had done
was switch it to the computer type, Desktop/Home computer. Then bang, everything
fixed.
