>I have previously D/L addaware and found it not to work very well,Then I found Smasher.I
D/L this and it worked well but my question remains on the uninstall issue.I want
to get rid of it not just surpress it.Why wont some programs uninstall from add/remove.Ie:Morpheus
1.9,Gain,Gator and all those persistant advertising based programs. Do they have
that much staying power or are they not the original source.I did manage to delete
some programs & files over a period of about 5 days of trying & reading different
things and it slowed the popups down considerably but I only stumbled across these,I
doubt if I could find what I did and do it again. There Must Be A Way.

Ad-Aware won't remove Gain, but there's info on this page with removal instr. It's
an advertising trojan. I don't know why you have Morpheous listed in Add-Remove,
if you didn't install it yourself. I've never heard of that!

There's also a program called Spybot, which gets rid of a lot more junk than Ad-Aware.

Once and for all, lets get rid of this shirt Gator deal, along with their neighbor,
GAin..and all that dirt. And finally, I found a way to keep it.
Lets see, you have gator, or gain, or gator offer companion in drive C, in the ADD/Remove
windows, right. And when you click on one, they say it has uninstalled successfully,
but you still see the gator eyes spying at you, right? Also, go to Start, then Startup,
and you might see a huge gray box with a "G" letter, right. This is what I did, to
keep the gator out of my computer. This will help you stop getting those pop up windows
as well. And also, this should stop that connecting application window pop up every
time you turn your computer. If any of these is your problems, this is what should
help.
Go into the website CNet.com. They have cool software programs where people
who have purchased these programs, leave their feedback, and so you would have a
good chance of getting something that works. Now, in the search box, upper left,
type in "uninstalled". You should then get a list of software uninstaller programs.
Find the one called Advaced Uninstaller Pro2002 4.0. They give you a 3 week time
to try it for free, but you might want to buy it since its so good. Download that
program, and simply follow the instructions. You will be given about 5 options when
you open this program. Simply click on the first one called uninstall programs..somthing
like that, and it will first give you a list of all the program in your Add/Remove
window. Now check those that you do not want and delete them. BUT..after that close
the program, and exit the internet. Now, click start then control panel, then Add/Delete
programs, like you were normally do any other program. The picture of the gator might
not be there, but read the programs instead listed, and re-locate gator, or gain
or offercompanion, and you will get a message that this program is nolonger in your
system, do u want to delete the picture? and click on yes. Continue deleting the
other pricture if you like, like gatorewallet and those others. After you see this
magic happen, you have 3 weeks or so to decide if you would like to buy the Advanced
Uninstaller Pro2002 4.0 program, which is worth it. Hope this help. If your are satisfy,
pass this messege along. Have a good one.

I've been able to get-rid of the Gain crap. This is pretty much what I did:
All of these files (at least) are associated with the adware: GMT, CMII, Gain.
RUN Regedit and go to the Software files in both HKey_Users and HKey_Local. Delete
all files that start with Gain.
Go to C:\Program Files/Common Files\CMEII and delete all of the files that you're
allowed to delete. I had to rename some of the files and then put them into another
folder before being allowed drag to the recycle bin. Empty the bin. Do the same
for the GMT folder in the same directory. Empty the bin.
Do a Search All Files for Gain. Choose the ones that you want and delete those too
if there are any left.
Try to restart your computer, you may have to revert to the last known good profile
and do things in a different order. Reboot. Check your HKey_Local_Machine registry
to see if the Gator folders show-up again. If it doesn't, you've probably got it.
Good luck.

Jason-One more thing. The previous message didn't quite have everything. After
posting I did another search for Gator and found the log file that has all the other
folders listed. I deleted it and now forget what it was named...anyway it will be
something to open with Note Pad and has all the info you need to track down the rest
of it. Mine was located in C:\Windows directory along with about 4 more files.
Have fun on the Honeymoon. Also, maybe try Guard-IE to help with the pop-ups, I
just got it and it works great.

You don't need to search and remove it manually. Just download and run SpyBot.
http://beam.to/spybotsd
It looks for spyware, but also targets dialers, keyloggers, and other nasties, and
it's freeware.
It's an excellent alternative to Ad-Aware, which has been updated less than frequently
in recent times.
After installing, go to the Online tab, and search for and install all updates.
Next, go to the Settings tab > File Sets, and uncheck 'System Internals' and 'Tracks'
.
These aren't needed for our present purpose, and you can always experiment with them
later on.
Run offline.....After running the scan Hit 'Check All', and have SpyBot remove all
it finds.

1. Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and look for "GMT" which is the Gator process. Kill it.
(Otherwise you can´t delete files)
2. Search "Gator" on your harddrive
3. Delete all associated files and .dll´s
4. Remove Gator shortcut from autostart folder

Before any of these gator removals can work at all, you have to have all internet
related programs turned off.
Each day I try to delete this monster and each day it's back. Ugh!

Interesting (and scary) addition to the Gator problems:
I was at a client's house, and every time I come over to work on their computers,
I have to sweep for spyware and always find many. Gator is always a culprit.
Something strange happened this time though. The spybot sweeper softare I use tells
me it can't delete a specific folder, and I should do so through Windows Explorer.
The folder is c:\Program Files\Common Files\GMT . When I went to delete it, the
system froze, and I couldn't even CTRL-ALT-DELETE to End Task. The whole system
stays frozen for about 10 minutes, then I get a dialogue box telling me that Drive
C: is not format, do I wish to format now. WHAT THE HELL IS PROTECTING THIS FOLDER???
I couldn't even delete this folder via a CMD prompt. I tried everything. Even
did a registry search for "gmt". It return about a billion entries, all unrelated
to this folder.
Has anyone else seen this? Any suggestions? I'm 99% sure it's related to Gator/Gain.

After finding and deleting many things associated with Gain and Gator, I was unable
to delete the gator.log file. After finding the GMT file by hitting ctrl-alt-delete
and going to the "Processes" tab and removing it, I was able to get rid of the last
file I found. Thanks!!!!!
