missing file ''mscoree.dll''

After running Norton WinDoctor I got the following report:
"C:\ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\InstallShield\Professional\RunTime\0700\Intel32\DotNetInstaller.exe"
can not access a file which is needed, "mscoree.dll"
I should appreciate your help about how to get this missing file and to which folder
should I paste it.
Thanks and regards,
Jorge

Many users who install the current build of the Microsoft.Net SDK complain that the
C# compiler does not work and C# executables will not run. Error messages note that
msvcr70.dll and mscoree.dll, respectively, are missing from their system directories.
Here is the cure. Uninstall the samples and the sdk. Then restart the computer in
safe mode. These are several ways to do this. The old way still works: hold down
the F8 key during startup until the computer starts beeping. You will be presented
with a list, select 3 - Safe Mode. If instead you see the desktop, you waited too
long, try again.
Browse to the big Setup.exe file that contains the sdk. Reinstall the Microsoft.Net
SDK.
The files msvcr70.dll and mscoree.dll are now in your system folder.
Restart the computer in Normal mode. The csc.exe compiler will work, and c# exe's
will run

The missing mscore.dll file is not missing. Nor is there a problem with WindowsXP
or Norton WinDoctor. All you have to do is go to Windows Update and download the
update called Microsoft.Net something. Once you have restarted your computer check
for windows problem using the Norton WinDoc and it should be fixed.

Thank you for replying. I would really appreciate it if you could post simple directions
on how to "go to Windows Update and download the update called Microsoft.Net something."
Also, what is this all about? Do I need this file? What is Microsoft.Net? Thanks!!!

Hi,
Thanks for replying. Can you tell me specific instructions on how to "go to Windows
Update and download the update called Microsoft.Net something"? I can follow simple
instructions. I don't have the slightest idea what Microsoft Net is. What is it used
for? I obviously don't do anything complex on my computer. Thank you!!!!

Adam, if you don't have a problem with this file and you are not seeing an error
message when you run Windoctor, then you have no worries. Sounds like you stumbled
onto this site without a problem?

Jeff's reply was not too kind, and only shows he did not look closely at the thread.
I doubt that you will ever have a need of Microsoft.net framework. If you download,
it you will take up 21MB of disk space for a program that you will never use.
The best solution is to download only the mscoree.dll file as noted by others, and
then install it in either window\system, or the folder that is generating the error

I had the same missing dll appear in Windoctor on my WinMe system, and had not knowingly
installed any .net component.
Using the www.dll-files.com and unzipping the dll into \system works like a charm.
Thanks for advice.

I would like to thank you for helping me with my problem: the "file gone missing"
mscoree.dll. It was really starting to bother me. I do not delete or modify the system's
files or even access its folders and I do not understand why the computer is sending
me messages about errors it encountered, errors due to missing files (I had a problem
with "hpfsched" which I also solved using advice I found on this site). I do not
have anyone to ask for help so I decided to search the Internet when I saw that the
problem persisted. And I found this site; I read the answers to previously asked
questions and I solved my problem by going to www.dll-files.com, downloading the
file and unzipping it in the folder where the file was missing from.
The mscoree.dll file may not be a big deal, but for me it was important because
I do not have the money, the people and the time
necessary to buy and install new software and new hardware and every time I turn
on my computer and I see an error I think I'm going insane. I don't do much with
it, but I need it for communication, searching the web for information I need for
my faculty: essays, reports, god knows what, and mostly for projects. Every project
(no matter how insignificant and simple), every essay, report, e-mail (send/received)
etc is on this particular harddisk, so loosing everything would be a tragedy for
me. That's why I am a little paranoic when it comes to errors because I immediately
think I have a virus that will erase my entire HDD. Even my AntiVirus programme gave
me an error when I launched it the other day, but I updated its database and the
problem is no more.
I appologize for this long message and hope I didn't annoy anyone, even though I
don't think anyone had the patience to read this far or even read it at all.
P.S. Please forgive me if I have made spelling or any kind of mistakes, but english
is not my native language. Thank you again, Gina

The mscoree.dll file doesn't need to be replaced. This error message is normal and
can be ignored. If it really annoys you, you can set WinDoctor to ignore this "problem".

I too have been plagued with this annoying problem for many months. Even tho I told
Norton System Works to ignore the problem, and it says it will, the OBC tests run
every week still report the same thing as a problem. I took the advice of one respondent
to download the dll file from the www.dll-files.com site and I stored the unzipped
version to C:/windows/system folder and that got rid of the problem.
Thanks to those who posted the fix!
