I tried it using both systems as server and as client, but i can't get it to work. I think i'm missing something imporant. Description: I need to get some files out of a broke down 100mhz running win98 first edition, fully updated. I need to get those files into a laptop running winxp home. Only way to connect them (as i saw it) was through the lpt1 plug. But there always seems to be a bit of incompatibility. When using the 100mhz as the client, i used direct cable connection and set up a host net connection on windows xp. When using the laptop as a the client i did exactly the same except for seting the connection as client. I also tried using the net configuration assistant from winxp that tried to configure win98 on it's own (i had to pass it via a disc). I also tried it using two programs, fastlynx, and paraben's pc linker but they all seem not to connect. note: I don´t think the cable is mal functioning broken. Anyone's done this before? I really need the detailed know-how. Thanks in advanced

I managed to do it once, with 98 as host, but later on couldn't reproduce.

-Make sure XP firewall is off for that connection.
-Make sure on 98 machine that you choose Microsoft Network Logon in network control
panel, and restart the box.
