I am running windows XP and using a Smart Link 56Kmodem. I periodically get this message"you have just ignored an incoming call", and am then disconnected.I do not have "call waiting" and am at a loss to know what to do next. Does any body have a solution?

I've got the same problem with windows XP Home Ed - using Aztech CNR v.92 Modem;with Smark Link driver v2.92.4.575. ISP is freeserve and there seems to be no pattern to when this occurs. Anyone out there got any suggestions ?

I think I may now have a solution!!!In the Smart Link driver file, the read me file contains a reference to this problem towards the end and a simple solution, which has so far worked for me. good luck. gerry

Yvonne my system is a an Evesham build and my modem is a Smartlink Modem V90 (V92 Ready) Driver 2.92.04F (2.92.4.180) for Windows XP. The following is pasted from the read me file in theSL29204F folder:- "Note on V92 functions. V92 is a new modem protocol designed with 3 functions in mind. Faster Connection, better transfer of compressed data and the ability to pause your modem to take an incoming telephone call on the same line. All three functions will only work with a V92 ISP but the latter one has extra provisions to bear in mind. It is commonly referred to by one of two names either "modem on hold" or "internet call waiting". In order to use the function you must have three things in place. 1/ A v92 connection from the Internet Service Provider 2/ The ISP account must support Internet call waiting 3/ Your telephone service provider must support Call Waiting and you need to subscribe to this function and have it enabled. If the modem is used on a line that does not meet all three of the above criteria then phantom messages about "ignoring an incoming call" may appear. To avoid this phenomenon look for a file in the c:\drivers\modems\SL29204F folder called "SL_XP_hotfix_01.BAT" open this file and confirm the modem in the pop up box. A black window will appear and disappear. Once it closes the update will have been applied." I have had no trouble since. I hope this may at least point you in the right direction Gerry

I can only say that the problem seems to be connected with using ver 92 drivers with a ver 90 modem.Since downloading Smartlink Modem driver V.2.92.04F from Evesham and following the instructions in the "read me" I have had no trouble.

I have taken computer back to store and they have downgraded the modem to V90 from V92, as per the advice from Freeserve helpline. This has made no difference. Computer store seem to think problem could be caused because I am using the Windows XP Fax programme, they want to remove this. Do you think this could be the case. They tried to look for the file you suggested ie. SL2904F SL XP hotfix, but could not locate it on my computer. I have printed off your last advice, ie. downloading the smartlink driver from Evesham, and will give this to technicians at store to see if this solves the problem. If you can think of anything else, then please let me know, I am slowly going mad by this problem. Thanks for all your help. Susie

We are having exactly the same problem - only ours is as soon as you connect, you get the message, then we are disconnected, we connect and we get the message again and then we are disconnected - needless to say we are not using the internet very often or email! Did you manage to solve the problem. We have been in contact with BT, Freeserve, PC World and no one seems to be able to help.

I just searched the net for solutions to this problem and came across this site: http://www.swnm.com/setupxp.htm Here it is among others explained that you will need a special code number for disabling incoming calls, which you put in front of your dial-up number. This code number you should get from you ISP (Internet provider) Hope it works!

Dear Carole I was having this problem and it was driving me mad, freeserve and BT couldn't help me either. Our pc was only 6 weeks old (purchased from PC world),and they kept having the computer back in, and modifying various things on it ( I am not sure what!), to no avail. We kept getting the message and the disconnection. Eventually, after I threw a hissy fit in pc world, they took it back and changed the modem to a completely different make to the one that was installed in the factory, which I think was the smartlink one. Since ditching the smartlink modem, we have had no problems at all with this new modem. If you need advice I suggest you phone PC World Southend Branch on 01702 560013, speak to Andy in the PC clinic, and hopefully he can advise you of which brand of modem you should use to avoid the problem. You really have my sympathies, as I thought I was going to go mad, if I saw ''ignore incoming call'' again!!! Hope this helps. Good luck. Susie

I also keep getting this message, sometimes after a few seconds, sometimes after half an hour or so. The thing is i don't have a smartlink modem. I have an Aztec CNR V.92 Modem. I've looked for the read-me file for the driver, but i cant find it. in fact, i can't even find the driver. Has anybody got any idea's on this problem? i'm running on XP. thanks, in advance of your help, Chris Green.

I have been experiencing the same 'ignore incoming call' hang up problem since I upgraded my system last week. Thanks to your tips I have experienced a whole evening on line. First of all I unplugged all other telephones in the house. This let me stay on line long enough to download the latest driver from smart link. I now have the phones reconnected without any problems.

In your control panel, turn off auto update, and also try down load the latest driver for your modem. That should do it.Have fun.

Try the following:

Open notepad
(Start->Programs->Accessories->Notepad),
copy the following text, and paste it into your notepad
window:

REM ------------ START OF COPY ----------------
@echo off
echo [HKR] > %windir%\smcfg.ini
echo HostBasedModemData\Parameters\DPDriver,ModemOnHoldEnabled,1,00,00,00,00 >> %windir%\smcfg.ini
smcfg
REM ------------ END OF COPY ----------------

Then save this in a file called "SL_XP_hotfix_01.bat"
(you might need to put this in quotes when you save
it to avoid notepad putting a ".txt" extension on the
end).

Then, using Windows Explorer, navigate to the file you
just saved, and click on it.
If you get a pop-up window, click "OK".

Let me know if this works.

I had the same problem for ages when i brought my computer. The message just kept coming up.."''you have just ignored an incoming call" but i found the solution..this is a definate solution cause i've not had the problem since & it's been almost a month when it used to happen every day. The problem only happens with Smart Link modems. You need to go to http://www.smlink.com/ & download the latest drivers for the modem. Its as simple as that :)

I have had this problem since November 2003 and it has driven me crazy - the box appearing every few minutes and disconnecting me. My supplier couldn't help, my ISP couldn't help and I was in despair. I found your message, Mike, in this forum and followed your instructions. I have now been free of it for a whole week. I am, and remain, eternally grateful to you for solving this problem. Many many thanks.
