see the following link for a list of conversions from
ascii to hex (and others)...
Hex is 2nd column , the corresponding alphabetic
character (or number ) is the last column (in red)

My advice, don't use the method on the page here. Much of the info is wrong for
XP anyway (the icon is not in user.exe, for example).

Download resource hacker.

Open explorer in reshack. The "start" string is under string table, 37.

Save Explorer as, say, explorer.hak. You'll have to start in Safe Mode with Command
prompt to overwrite explorer.exe. (Backup explorer.exe by copying or renaming it.)

You can actually test your hack of explorer .exe without having to reboot into safe mode or anything.Put your hacked version into a known location other than c:\winnt, for example on the root of c:, open task manager and kill explorer.exe, then click on New Task, and type C:\explorer.exe, and it will launch your version rather than the original. You can switch back in the same way. The bit I haven't yet managed is a simple way to test User32.dll, as it's always in use. Does that work from safe mode, does anyone know?
