Question about 'How to Share Files through Windows XP's Internet Connection Firewall'

I have a question about How to Share Files through Windows XP's Internet Connection Firewall:

I have a network as such: cable modem->custom linux router->Linksys switch->PC's The router is supposed to have a firewall on it, but I'm not a linux expert so I just wanted to make sure my comp was covered. If I dissable XP's firewall, I can access the other computers on my network. I can't when it is enabled. I tried enabling all 5 of those ports on the loopback listed in the article. Since there is a switch between the router and the PC's, the router should not interfere should it?? Any other suggestions on ports to enable or anything.

go ahead and disable XP's firewall, it only protects against incoming traffic anyway, I use a similar configuration to yours but I also use Zonealarm, free edition. the router effectively acts as a hardware firewall.
