I dont know what type of motherboard I have, and dont really want to tear apart my
computer trying to figure it out. Is there a way in Windows XP to look up the information.
I need to know so that I can upgrade memory in my computer and dont know what type
to buy.

I won't argue that, I put it on CD and use it on several different computers. When
done I uninstall. It isn't something we need on day to day basis but when something
seems to act up it is another tool for analysis, certainly as to what software may
have been smuggled in :-)

Not to mention that I've got pictures running up to 45megs, 1.3 is only a snapshot.
Yeah, I know, costs me in HD size, but thats mostly what I do with computers :-)

I've never used the Belarc Advisor (but since I always build my own, I know exactly
what's in the box), so I don't know hat (if any) limitations it has. Here is another
way of finding out what your motherboard is, although the procedure is rather tedious.
When you first boot there is a text ID string displayed for a brief time - this is
a BIOS ID number, the code can be deciphered at: http://www.wimsbios.com/

Belarc Advisor is really an inventory, not an advisor (except to advise the owner
what is in the box). It is accurate and thorough, but, once run, its best to print
out the report and, as triplate advises, remove Belarc.

I tried to do the bios check, but my computer does not boot up same as say windows
98. it just starts right up on the black xp screen. I guess I will try the Belarc
Advisor. Thanks
