Question about 'Force NumLock to Behave'

I have a question about Force NumLock to Behave:

What we really need is a way to disable the numlock key so that it won't accidentally turn off when you inadvertantly hit it while pressing the '7' key!! I'd like to buy a keyboard that doesn't even have a NumLock key!

I have a Acer Key board without the number pad on the right side so no num lock. Also many key boards the keys pop off pretty easy. I use to change the key board layouts as office gag on my boss.

Actually, we need a way to keep NumLock OFF if we bump it. (Maybe that is why its there ;+)

I have AntiCapsLock by Orionsoft that keeps the Caps Lock key off even if you press it. Maybe we can get them to write the same program for the Num Lock key that keeps either on or off based on our preference. Joe

You may not like this method, but a similar complaint on this forum about the Insert key inspired it. I removed the Insert key, broke out the plastic cylinder inside of the key that attaches it to the switch on the keyboard, then replaced it. It has now been "neutered" and is no longer accidentally pressed. What happens if I ever need it again? Well I have needed it since DOS died, so I can probably continue to live without it. Looks like I might be doing the same mod to the Num Lock key - because you do have a good point. And the last thing that I want is another background service continually probing my system to see if the stupid switch is on or off.

I'll have to think about that for awhile, but I may end up doing it if I can make the keyboard look like new. Maybe we can find a way to freeze a key in the up position. Maybe we can manufacture a device to go under keys to keep them from being pressed and make a million dollars! Joe

YAHOO!!! IT WORKED!!!! Okay, check this out! I popped off my NumLock key and realized that if I had a cylinder of just the right diameter it would hold the key in the up position. I used the plastic core from the "adding machine roll" in my calculator. It consists of two cylinders held together with fins. I used the inner cylinder with the fins removed and cut a piece just the right length. I had to cut the cylinder lenghtwise (so it's split and you could roll it out flat if you wanted to) because the diameter was too small to fit over the cylinder in the keyboad. Then I slipped the key down on to the cylinder an voila! The key is frozen in the up position and cannot be pressed!!! I'm a happy camper! Thanks for the inspiration!

I also have a question. My numlock light is always on when the power is turned off. Is there any way I can get it to only bie on when the computer is on? I have looked at the bios setting and could not find any mention of it.

For the last one.. it is probably due to the "power on by keyboard" function in your bios...or it could have a jumper on your motherboard that give +5V to the keyboard to permit this function to work. switching this jumper off would disable the function completly.
