Internal CPU Cache Conflict

I recently bought a new Computer with an AMD Athlon 2000 processor and no operating system. When I tried to load Windows XP Home I got an stop error and said IRQ_NOT_EQUAL and to try again. The second time it said to disable the CPU cache or video shadowing or try a new video adapter. When I disabled the CPU Internal Cache, the stop error went away but it subsequently took 3 DAYS to load it on the computer. When it finally finished, i tried to boot it up from scratch and it took an hour just to load windows. I tried it again with the CPU INternal Cache enabled and it just crashed when it got to windows, but it at least got there very quickly. What should I do, my warranties to return these are going to run out.

Just a guess but the CPU my be defective so if you have any warranty left on it return it and get a new one

Loading XP should be easy painless operation. If you have not added any additional hardware to the PC , that may cause problem, I would return it for exchange or refund.

I,d double check your RAM first, cas latency, etc,voltage........

I don't know if this will help or confuse, but there should be a setting in the BIOS for the Cache Type. If you're not comfortable with getting into the belly of the beast, you may have a technically oriented friend who can check the BIOS settings for you. As others have pointed out, the error message you're getting usually is associated with a memory problem... Cache is memory, although it's part of the CPU.

I guess my real question is, is this a legitiamate issue to return either the computer or the software. I believe at this point the computer is defective. If I can return it for a refund, should I waste my time troubleshooting?

Yah, I'd return it. They may try to fix it or replace it, but see if they'll install XP for you, if that's what the choice is... just to make sure it works.
