How to display ''View as Web Page'' in Win XP?

In Win 9X & '00, Windows Explorer allows you to view objects with a preview section off to the left of the object. Example: You click once on a *.JPG file and to the left, you see the preview of the image. I don't like Thumbnails, as it takes too long to load all pictures in view. Is there any way to turn on the Web Page viewing? This feature was very helpful with previous OS's. Why would MS remove it?!

I have just installed XP pro and was astounded when I couldn't find this feature anywhere I have fiddled with the "folder" button and got previews of images, but what about music and movies?. Come on, I know it's there, surely Microsoft wouldn't remove such a valuable feature.... or would they?

Has this ever been solved. I've run into the same problem, and tried the "show common tasks in folders" without success? Thanks, Neil

Microsoft must change things to keep us using our Minds. Here is what works. Open "My Computer" In the Menu Bar click "Tools" | "Folder Options..." The "Folder Options" window opens with the "General tab selected. Now select the radial beside "Show common task in folders". Select the "Apply" button then click the "OK" button. The window closes. Now to your left in the "My Computer" window you have three selection windows: 1st. "System Task", 2nd. "Other Places" and 3rd. "Details". The 3 rd. selection window ("Details") is the area of interest, here you will see those ".jpg", ".bmp" etc. file extensions when you select them without opening an application. I know this is not want we want but it is all that "Microsoft" left us with. It is however better than nothing. I, like everyone else, enjoyed using the "View" as a Web Page" function in the older versions of Windows Explorer. This is why I also have windows 98SE loaded on my computer. If you are interested in loading your old Win. 98 or earlier Win 95 on the same computer you will have to fdisk, partition, format and then reload the older windows first, then load Win XP to the next partition. A search on "loading multiple Operating Systems" will get you to some interesting reading. The record number of Operating Systems on a single computer (I believe) is 23. I hope this helps Earl

Thank you! I take it for now. How annoying that you cannot get Folders and the Preview of the image - I'm blind I can't see! Karen

I went to the windows support page given below, did everything written there, but
it did not work. It does not even show the common tasks in folders, not to mention
the preview of music files.

Is there anyone who tried the same method and could not succeed. Were you able to
solve this problem?

Thanks,

1. Open Explore and choose the folder you want to view preview pictures in. 2. On the View menu, choose list or details (I prefer details). 3. On Tools menu, choose Folder Options >> View tab and click on Apply to All Folders and click OK. 4. Just below Help on the Toolbar, Folders should be selected. De-select it and there ya go. Scroll down in the left panel and you'll see previews for pics you choose. Unfortunately, I have not figured out how to make this the default, so you have to De-select Folders every time.

This is probably a very dated response but the best way to accomplish this is to go to view>filmstrip This places thumbnails at the bottom of the screen and a large preview of the highlighted file in the center.
