Curse Logitech! This problem dogged me for months! Finally, I followed a suggestion on another forum and loaded updated drivers for my Logitech optical mouse. The new MouseWare can be downloaded from www.logitech.com. The problem driver was called kbdclass.sys. It was revealed when I disabled the "automatically restart" setting within the power settings of the control panel. When I choose "Shut Down" from the Start Menu, my computer restarts instead of shutting down:
